Over the next few Saturdays in March Amy will be leading us on a journey of her own design and imagining. Make sure to visit her blog, Tsuruta Designs, to see more from her and for a chance to win a giveaway!
Give Amy a big round of applause to welcome her as she steps onto the stage for her first performance as our March Leading Lady!
Happy Saturday!
Hello, it's me...Amy Tsuruta or ~amy~. I'm beyond thrilled to be the March Leading Lady for Winnie & Walter! I will be their Saturday guest for the month and so excited to get started!
First a bit about me!
I'm a momma to 2 beautiful kids. My baby girl turns 20 this month! She's going to the University of Washington and majoring in Microbiology. My son is a senior in high school and we're seeing the college acceptances come in...We'll be empty nesters soon and sigh, that makes me a sad momma! I'm engaged to Darin. He's a super guy that fully encourages my paper crafting....as I encourage his hobby, airplane building...yes, as in real-life-size airplane, not model or remote controlled. I work part-time for a start up biotech company in Seattle. I've worked in biotech or the biomedical device industry for, gasp, almost 20 years. I graduated from the University of Washington in 2006 (late bloomer!}.
I've been happily blogging since 2007 and my home called: Tsuruta Designs
Easy way to pronounce my last name:
tsu•ru•ta [sue - roo - ta]
I have met so many fabulous people during this blogging journey...and have several that come over to craft with me on a monthly basis, I consider myself so super fortunate!
Let's get to my projects today, shall we?!
I wanted to do a recurring theme, newsprint.
First up is a 'happy' card:
I really love the trend using distress inks. It is amazing all the different looks you can achieve.
I die cut the Big Bang Confetti Cutaways using watercolor paper. I didn't snip the shapes apart but kept them whole. I transferred the die cuts to my craft mat and spritzed them with water and using a paintbrush, I brushed mowed lawn and picked raspberry onto the confetti pieces.
My card base is 4.25 x 4.25. The vellum layer is 3.75 x 3.75. I used glossy accents to adhere the confetti and the vellum down. Can you guess what I used for the In a Word: Happy Cutaway? Yup, it's craft foam....love that stuff and love that it comes in awesome colors like charcoal.
Next up, a thanks card:
I used the negative piece of the Big Bang Confetti Cutaways, Peacock Feathers Distress Ink and a mini ink blending tool. I love how it looks with the newsprint base. Do you see the First Birthday Bash Sequin Mix on my card? The sentiment is ala The Big, the Bold and You Cutaways. This time I used black craft foam.
My last project for today is a tag with an altered mini to-go cup!
I used both tags in the Essentials: Katharine Cutaways set. I altered the larger tag by shortening it up to compliment the petite tag.
Using a Steel Gray cardstock for the petite tag, I white embossed the banner stick & cupcake from Sugar Rush. I wanted to make it look like a sparkler on the cupcake, so I used an image from the Sparkle set {which will be available later this year} and embossed it with a Stardust embossing powder. I smeared white ink on the grey tag and finished it off with a Happy Banner using a die from the Katharine Cutaways set.
Now, onto the mini to-go cup...I used the Lulu Fringe Cutaway with grey cardstock and lavender tissue paper. Around the top of the cup I used silver glittery washi tape.
I was inspired by

Whew! That's it for me today!
But before you go, Julie & Shay have kindly given me a $30 Winnie & Walter Gift card to give-a-way! I'm going to do a random draw on the comments that are left on the Saturday Leading Lady posts here, on the Winnie & Walter blog!
Make sure you swing by my blog because I'm going to be giving away another $30 Winnie & Walter Gift card {I'm matching Julie & Shay's!}. It'll work the same way, leave comments on the Winnie & Walter Saturday posts on my personal blog for the month of March and I'll do a random draw for one lucky winner!
