Brutus Monroe + Winnie & Walter Collaboration Week | Day 6 (Video)

For fabulous final performance of our August Leading Lady, Tracey McNeely, CLICK HERE.

082518-WW-BrutusMonroe-Collab-01

Hi there, W&W friends! It's Lea with a card for our collaboration with Brutus Monroe! When I was picking the items that I wanted to use, I knew that I wanted to build on what Winnie & Walter already does best....stamps & dies!

Video:

082518-WW-BrutusMonroe-Collab-02

So I grabbed some Brutus Monroe items that would compliment this, including their amazing 130 lb. cardstock, Detail Ink in Raven, Gilded embossing powder, and their watercolor paper.

082518-WW-BrutusMonroe-Collab-03

To start, I stamped the beautiful cacti image from the Winnie & Walter "Kindness" stamp set to a block of their watercolor paper. I did use my MISTI for this as it took two tries to get a good impression, which is perfectly normal on watercolor paper. Then I used some Pinkfresh Studio liquid watercolor and the "smooshing" technique to create my background. I love this technique because you get such random results each time, but it normally always works out!

082518-WW-BrutusMonroe-Collab-04

I did let it air dry naturally before splattering it with gold paint splatters. Then I mounted it to a top folding A2 card that I created from the Brutus Monroe Not Your Mama's 130 lb. cardstock. This cardstock is super thick & luxurious, and bright white - I highly recommend it!

082518-WW-BrutusMonroe-Collab-05

Then I proceeded to create my sentiment. I stamped & heat embossed the word Kindness in gold to a block of vellum, then diecut it with it's coordinating die. I mounted the word to my card front with foam strips, then proceeded to stamp the rest of the sentiment directly to the front. I did this by taking the foam out of my MISTI, and putting the entire card in it. Works perfectly, especially when you forget to finish stamping the full sentiment before putting the card together. ;)

For a Very Special Person with Gayatri

Hey, This is Gayatri here with you today. I have a clean and simple card. I have used three different stamp sets from Winnie & Walter. They are Dotty About You with Lydia Evans stamp set, Kindness with Evelin T Designs and coordinating cutaways and finally, Sentimental: Gift stamp set.

gayatri_For a very special person1

I picked the smaller Cacti image from Kindness with Evelin T Design stamp set to stamp multiple times on white cardstock panel using copic friendly black dye ink. I used Simon Says Stamp Intense Black ink. Then I coloured the images using copic markers. I am not looking for realistic cacti here but colourful cacti as this is more a modern and clean looking card. After colouring the cacti, I added dots using Sakura Gelly Roll white pen. Then I die cut them all using the coordinating cutaway.

I wanted these cacti to be popped up into three rows and columns on a white panel. But I wanted something on the background to soften the stark contrast of the white background. Nothing dark but something subtle and small enough for the cacti to fit inside the stamped image. So I went through my Winnie & Walter stamp set to find a solid round stamp image. I did find a few of them but they were perfect round. I wanted something organic looking. So I chose the background image from the new Dotty About You by Lydia Evans stamp set. It was a solid stamp and roundish not the perfect round image. I was so happy when I found it.

I die cut a white cardstock using Essential: Katherine Cutaways and used Simon's Fog dye ink to stamp the image on the background to anchor the cacti. I then popped up all the die cut cacti using foam adhesives. The sentiment is from Sentimental: Gift stamp set which I white heat embossed on a strip of black cardstock and adhered on the middle of the card front. The panel is embellished with few clear droplets and mounted on a white card base using foam adhesives.
Here are a few closeups.

I really love the colourful cacti with the white dot details. I think the dots make the cacti pop and the subtle gray background behind the cacti anchors them, reduces the contrast as well as adds interest. Love how this card turned out. All w&w supplies used to make this card are listed below.

Thanks so much for stopping by. Have a lovely day!

Shay

I have a great fondness for trees of all sorts and Evelin's are so sweet and cute! I wanted to watercolor and the large trees are perfect for that.

shay_IMG_4170

This card is pretty large and would require a specially sized envelope (or bag or box) but I really wanted to stamp a symmetrical scene so I just went with it.  On watercolor paper I stamped the trees in black ink and then painted it in using a waterbrush and Distress Inks.  I stamped "kindness" using Catherine Pooler Ink in tiara and then cut it out using Kindness with Evelin T Designs Cutaways.

I stamped the "your" and "brightens my day" in black ink on white cardstock and cut them into little blocks.  I then adhered all of the sentiments with foam dimensional adhesive.  Under the sentiment I added yellow glitter tape.

Wishing You with Kelly

Hi Folks! For any Fall birthdays I love to take advantage of making cards with bright reds, oranges and yellows. They are such happy colors, perfect for putting a smile on someone's face.

This card uses one of my favorite trees ever, the large circle tree from Kindness with Evelin T Designs.  I'm not a fan of spending a long amount of time coloring leaves and branches, so this circle tree makes my coloring time so efficient!

Several Distress Inks are blended on the tree, and then I flicked some water drops to break it up. Gold and clear sequins add a nice sparkle.

I used the sentiment from Wishing You with Evelin T Designs (on sale in November) as a grounding element for the tree, and colored the area below each letter with marker. It makes the sentiment a little more interesting, and gives the tree somewhere to grow. The top of the "n" is cut with an exacto blade so I can slide the tree trunk behind it. I used a few washi tapes on the bottom of the card base.

Thanks so much for looking!

-Kelly

September Leading Lady Carson Riutta | Take One

Carson_Riutta_september2016

Today we are thrilled to introduce our September Leading Lady, Carson Riutta.   Carson is an incredible artist whose work I have followed for years.  Her bold use of color and pattern, skills at memory keeping along with card making and ability to use a single product in a myriad of ways is so inspiring.

Over the next few Saturdays in Carson will be leading us on a journey of her own design and imagining.  Make sure to visit her bl
og, Pine & Plum
, to see more from her and for a chance to win a giveaway!

Please give Carson a big round of applause to welcome her as she steps onto the stage for her first performance as our September Leading Lady!

Hello! My name is Carson and I am so thrilled to be your Winnie & Walter, Leading Lady for the month of September! I have been an admirer of the Winnie & Walter products for years now, but I've never had the opportunity to use them and now that I have, well let's just say, I've been wowed!

May 2016 Carson Riutta Headshot

I'll be gushing soon about the products, but first let me tell you a bit about myself.  I'm an Environmental Scientist turned stay at home mom, who discovered paper crafts as a way to stay sane and creative between diaper changes and afternoon naps.  I started with cards and branched out into all kinds of paper crafts, including scrapbooking, project life, and art journaling, but cards still remain the favorite of all my creative endeavors.  I'm a bit of a color addict and usually create with bright, bold colors and lots of contrast.  Stitching and paint splatter are my signature finishing touches and I like to get a little messy. Since discovering the joys of paper, my family and I have moved from Northern California to Washington State and then across the country to our new home in North Carolina.  With all that change, this hobby has been a beautiful constant in my life and a way to make friends, like you, all over the world who are a part of this wonderful online community.  You can learn more about me and my work by visiting my blog at pineandplum.com.

Winnie and Walter Card Trio by Carson Riutta, September Leading Lady take 1

Let's get to the cards, shall we?  Today, I want to talk to you about how I create when I get my hands on new products and try to persuade you to do the same.  When I sit down with new products, I always pick a main image to work with, I choose a color scheme for my inks and then I decide on a neutral for my sentiments and papers.  Once those elements are chosen I try to make a trio of cards.  I keep those three elements constant, but work with different techniques and mix in coordinating supplies here and there.  I love that I can make three very different cards, stretch a new central image by using it in three different ways, and yet the whole process goes rather quickly as I don't have to make nearly as many decisions as I go.  Let me show you how these cards came together as an example.

Kindness blooms a Winnie and Walter card by Carson Riutta, September Leading Lady

I started the process by choosing the cactus images to work with from the Kindness set designed by Evelin T.  I loved that there were two sizes of cacti to work with and that they went well with the interesting sentiment you see above.  I then decided to go with my first instinct and create a desert scene with an intense sun to really highlight the "harsh climate" phrase.  So naturally I picked my ink colors from there, bright reds, oranges, yellows and greens.   The bright colors needed a strong contrasting sentiment so I went with black on white.  The pink blooms are actually stamped with the same red ink from the sun, but look pink as I used a blender pen to color them in.  Those blooms are from the super versatile In Bloom: Lola's Bouquet by Joni Andaya stamp set,  a coordinating set I brought in to spice things up a bit.  I'm infatuated with ink blending at the moment and I've found that this idea of a series of cards allows me to work with my favorite go to technique for the first card, but then I'm forced to think outside the box for the following two cards in order to make them look different.

Adventure Winnie and Walter Card by Carson Riutta, September Leading Lady

For my second card, I decided to stamp the smaller cactus and create a patterned paper.  I loved the look of coloring in the cacti with the blender pen so I repeated that process.  I used fewer colors and a different bloom image for this card, but kept my inks and sentiments in the same scheme and so even though the card is very different, the two go together well.  I die-cut the Adventure sentiment from The Big, the Bold and Fun Cutaways and stamped the phrase "have an" with black ink onto vellum from the matching stamp set.  To add a little texture I finished it up by sewing straight across the sentiment and leaving the thread ends out.

Family Fun Winnie and Walter Card by Carson Riutta, September Leading Lady

For my next and last card in the series I wanted to bring back those intense reds and oranges and create a landscape in a different way than I had with the first card.  The Scenery: Stripes stamp set was absolutely perfect for this and made this card so quick and easy.  All in all I was able to put these three cards together within an hour, which for me, is very fast.  Three complete stand alone cards would take me at least an hour each.  I hope the next time some new products cross your desk and excite your muse that you'll try this technique of making a coordinated card trio.  It's a lovely way to really work your new products and stretch your creative muscles while getting the most out of your precious crafting time.

I'll be back every Saturday this month sharing more cards and fun techniques with you.  I hope you've enjoyed the first installment and I would love to know if you are planning to give this a try or if you've crafted this way before.  I'm hosting a giveaway over on my blog, Pine & Plum, all month where one lucky commenter will win a $30 Winnie & Walter gift card.  I'll randomly pick a winner at the end of the month from all the comments left on my Saturday posts over there, so please come visit and let me know what you think!

Happy Crafting Friends, see you next week!

Rerun No. 13 | Kindness with Vanessa

Hey everybody! Vanessa here with a card combining two beautiful stamp sets. I used the pretty flowers from In Bloom: Lola's Bouquet with Joni Andaya to create a background and Kindness with Evelin T Designs to add a matching sentiment.

First, I die-cut a panel from white cardstock with the large rectangle die from Essentials: Katharine Cutaways. Now I stamped my background, masking flowers and leaves to create depth and avoid overlapping images. I covered the finished piece with another rectangle die-cut from vellum and adhered the panel to the black card base. Then I stamped and heat-embossed the sentiment onto a strip of pink cardstock and adhered it. I stamped the "Kindness" with my Misti onto white cardstock, inking the stamp with various inks, and die-cut it with the matching die. Now I die-cut the word from fun foam, layered it with the stamped word and adhered it. Finally, I added matching sequins to the card.

I love all the new dies that match the beautiful stamp sets! I hope you like today's inspiration! Thank you so much for stopping by!

Vanessa
