=====================================================================

It's all about flowers today!

In Bloom: Addie's Garden is the first in a series of stamp sets illustrated by Julie dedicated to flowers and leaves in the style of the roses in The Big, the Bold and Extras.  With flowers like tulips, Gerber daisy, hydrangea and leaves, you can make projects for mother's day, birthdays, weddings, sympathy, just because and more!  These flowers are just gorgeous and will add an instant elegance to your project!

We are adding to our In Bloom series with In Bloom: Maggie's Roses Cutaways.  These are stand-alone dies in the style of the roses and leaves from The Big, the Bold and Extras but BIGGER with a presence and stature all their own like the formidable Dame Maggie Smith they are named after. With outlines + solids you can do so much with these dies.

We are bringing you The Big, the Bold and Extras Cutaways which are the companion dies of our well loved The Big, the Bold and Extras.  Now you no longer have to fussy cut the flowers, leaves or banner out as these dies will give you a nice white edge around your stamped image (aka sticker look).

Let's get to the fun part and see what Julie, our guest stars, Maria F. & Maya Isaksson (our fabulous winners of our 1st Birthday Bash challenge), Lydia Evans (our April Leading Lady), + Anita in France (our May Leading Lady) and The Talent (our supernova creative team) made with the products. And make sure you visit Maria's, Maya's, Lydia's, Anita's and each of The Talent's blogs for more knock-it-out-of-the-park projects and details.  Don't forget to share some love with them too!

Julie

Hello again!  I'm very excited to share my projects with you today.  Before I do, I want to give you a little background into the inspiration for my projects and some of the stamps you will see today.

My love of crafting comes from spending much of my childhood coloring, making handmade cards, practicing my handwriting or calligraphy, making fun crafts, and much much more.  I believe I get my love for crafting and art from my mother and my grandmother.  Today, I want to introduce you to Addie Jane Holt Rogers - my maternal grandmother, aka Mama.

addie-rogers_3pics_jmogford

One of Addie's loves was painting, and I can remember her sitting by the front door and living room (that is where the best light was) and watching her paint landscapes and flowers. She would tell me how she was blending colors, or why she used certain tools.  I watched in amazement.  She even guided me through my first painting of a giant orange and brown mushroom on a yellow background (inspired by a greeting card circa 1977).    I also remember a particular vase of silk flowers that she kept on her dining room table and how larger than life these flowers seemed to be.  These memories were a big part of the inspiration for In Bloom: Addie's Garden and the roses from The Big, the Bold and Extras.  Mama, thank you for your talents and fostering my creativity. Thanks for collaborating with me on these. *wink*  I think you would have enjoyed this hobby. I miss you very much!

Now, for my projects inspired by these products and Addie:

w&w_maggies-roses_jmogford

This card features the In Bloom: Maggie's Roses Cutaways and boy oh boy did I have fun with these. I came across a tag I had inked a long time ago, and used the solid rose shapes to cut the flowers and leaves, and then the outline cutaways to cut gold paper to highlight the design.  A strip of cardstock, gold paper and vellum for banner strips and gold embossing and this card is finished.  The gold is soft and shiny and picks up the gold iridescence of the sprays used to make the original tag.

w&w_extras-dies_jmog

Let me just say I adore this card.  It even feels like Audrey Hepburn, doesn't it?  I used the two scalloped frames to create the backgrounds - the large one to cut vellum, gently lifting up from the card base, and the smaller one, inked in various shades of pink distress inks.  The new The Big, the Bold and Extras Cutaways made quick work of getting these vellum flowers ready for the card.  I did fussy cut one flower to give it a slightly different shape.  I am in love with how these white embossed vellum flowers look against the pink background, and little pearls and gems added with the "true treasure" sentiment.

w&w_gerbera_jmogford

These watercolor daisies are so fun, and you can paint them just about any color. I stamped and masked the daisies from In Bloom: Addie's Garden on watercolor paper and used my caran d'ache watercolor crayons and a brush.  The sentiment was quick and easy.  I wish you could see the Wink of Stella on the flowers and smile die cut from The Big, the Bold and Friends cutaways.

w&w_tulips_jmogford

Last, but not least, I had been really looking forward to making a card with these tulips, and wanted to color them with my Prismacolor pencils.  I love these pencils and how you can keep adding color and get interesting shading with them.  I especially like them against kraft cardstock.  Sometimes I emboss the images white and then color, but this time I stamped the images in Creamy Brown chalk ink so the image would be subtle, and then went back and added the colored pencil.  These leaves are all outline stamps, but I didn't have to mask them.  I just stamped them the direction I wanted, and then when it was time to color, I just chose which leaves would be in front and which would be behind.  It's a great trick!

Thanks so much for joining us here on the blog, and be sure to check out the projects below.  They are simply fabulous!

Today we have some essentials for you including our first stamp collaboration!

In Bloom: Lola's Bouquet with Joni Andaya is a set with versatile and stylish smaller blooms, leaves and containers a la Joni!  Layering options are unique and endless with this set.  This is a must-have stamp set for anyone who loves flowers!  Be sure to check out Joni's blog throughout our Release Week for more inspiration with In Bloom: Lola's Bouquet with Joni Andaya!

We are adding to our Essentials line with Essentials: Audrey Cutaways.  These are cutaways (dies) that can be used to layer in your crafting project or each used alone.  We named it Audrey after the timelessly elegant and feminine Audrey Hepburn.   There is a small pierced hole detail on several of the larger layering dies that is elegant without being fussy...a true classic!

Our next series of cutaways to introduce is additions to the In a Word series which happen to all be the same length.  We are coming out with four (4) more this release: In a Word: Friend Cutaway + In a Word: Hello Cutaway + In a Word: Hi Cutaway and In a Word: Hugs Cutaway.  These dies are so fun and versatile that they will go with any style of crafting and since they are a bit chunkier than our The Big, the Bold series they would be ideal for some shaker projects too. :-)

It is such a pleasure to be creating with In Bloom: Lola's Bouquet with Joni Andaya!  Julie and I were so happy to work with Joni to bring a big set of layering flowers and this set is like a garden crammed with glorious blooms!

Card 1

shay_1

I went very simple with this card.  I love the bottle image that you can add a flower to.  I stamped the bottle in weathered wood Tim Holtz Distress Ink and then colored it in with a waterbrush and the same ink.  I stamped the stem (line) in mowed lawn and pine needles Tim Holtz Distress Inks and layered the flower using picked raspberry and spun sugar Tim Holtz Distress Inks and the leaves in the same greens as the stem.  On the longer tiny tag in Essentials: Audrey Cutaways I stamped in weathered wood "for you" from The Big, the Bold, and the Happy and added some twine to the tag and added the tag using dimensional foam adhesive.  Last I added a grey strip with the xoxo border cut out of it from Essentials: Audrey Cutaways.  Honestly, I have fallen for Essentials: Audrey Cutaways just as much as I did for Essentials: Katharine Cutaways.  These are powerhouse die sets.

Card 2

shay_2

I love making my own backgrounds and In Bloom: Lola's Bouquet with Joni Andaya is perfect for this (so perfect I made another pattern for my last card).  On the smaller layer from Essentials: Katharine Cutaways cut from white cardstock, I stamped the three solid roses in squeezed lemonade, dried marigold and picked raspberry Tim Holtz Distress Inks and then overstamped the rose details in lemon zest, orange county and flamingo Color Theory inks by Studio Calico.  Then I used the sketchy larger circle and stamped that in black for contrast.

I die cut In a Word: Hello Cutaway 3 times in fuchsia, yellow-orange and black cardstocks and attached them slightly off for a shadow look.  I attached them to the floral panel using foam dimensional adhesive.  I added the largest heart from Essentials: Audrey Cutaways to the hello.

I attached the floral panel to a panel cut with the larger scalloped layer from Essentials: Audrey Cutaways and then attached it all to a black card base.

Card 3

shay_3

I just couldn't stop making backgrounds so using picked raspberry, festive berry and pine needles Tim Holtz Distress Inks, bermuda bay and pink pirouette Stampin' Up! inks and lemon zest Color Theory ink by Studio Calico I stamped a very fun and busy pattern on the smaller panel from Essentials: Katharine Cutaways cut from white cardstock.  Does it have a retro look to you too?  I adhered it to a white scallop panel cut using the larger layer from Essentials: Audrey Cutaways and then adhered it all to a teal A2 card base.

I cut out In a Word: Hugs Cutaway from white cardstock 5 times and adhered them all together for more weight and dimension.  I cut out the banner from The Big, the Bold and Extras Cutaways (more on that tomorrow) from white cardstock, stamped the sentiments using bermuda bay from The Big, the Bold and Friends and then colored it in with squeezed lemonade Distress Ink and lemon zest.  I adhered the hugs to the floral panel and banner using dimensional foam adhesive.

That's it from me today so now it's time for the showstoppers from our guests and Talent!

=====================================================================

We are introducing our latest in The Big, the Bold series: The Big, the Bold and Comfort and The Big, the Bold and Friends and also some new additions to The Big, the Bold series of cutaways (aka dies) as well: The Big, the Bold and Comfort Cutaways and The Big, the Bold and Friends Cutaways.  The word dies are almost exactly the same size as their counterpoint big word stamps so they work in conjunction with the little words and the big words, rather than being sticker/outline sized.

The Big, the Bold and Comfort includes five (5) big words: always; comfort; hope; prayers; and sympathy and like other sets includes tons of sentiment-building smaller words.

The Big, the Bold and Friends includes three (5) big words: friends; hugs; and smiles and like other sets includes tons of sentiment-building smaller words.

This set will work wonderfully with previously release The Big, the Bold series stamps, cutaways and creative screenings!

Julie

Hello everyone!  I’m so excited for this release, I just can’t tell you.  I’ve got a couple of cards to share with you today featuring the fan favorite The Big, the Bold series.  Up first, The Big, the Bold and Friends stamp set and Cutaways.

w&w_missing-you-friend_jmogford_wm

Today, I paired this uber versatile set with another new and equally versatile set - In Bloom: Lola’s Bouquet with Joni Andaya.  Oh Yeah!!!!  That set is just so much fun.  I loved working with my chalk inks on this card, and my favorite part was when I did a “rock and roll” technique on the rose bases before adding the extra petal detail.  *sigh*  Just wait till you see what magic Joni creates with these stamps, and the rest of the designers.  #delightful

I used a chalk ink called Berrylicious and I have paper this same color I used to die cut the word friends and just trimmed off the “s”.  There was a perfect amount of space to include the “missing you” sentiment to work with friend.  The final touch of some yellow enamel dots works great with the yellow flowers.  Having the panel popped up off the card enhances just how delicate these cutaways are. Love that!

Next, I tried a technique that I really love, but have never attempted until now.  And, I also used my new copic markers FOR THE FIRST TIME! I had a very small stash, but recently I saved up some money and went on a spree!  HEE HEE!  Have a look!

w&w_hopebutterfly_jmogford_wm

I knew I really wanted to use the hope sentiment from The Big, the Bold and Comfort stamp set and Cutaways, but couldn’t make up my mind how to present it.  That is when I decided to cut the word out, color and piece it back into the paper it was cut from.  I needed a focal image, and I chose a butterfly die from Stampin’ Up! for this card but you could use any die shape you like.

The butterfly was cut twice – once from watercolor paper and once from white cardstock that I lined with scor tape.   I then used the hope cutaway to cut the word from the butterfly.  This piece was very delicate once I removed hope. The watercolor paper butterfly was sprayed with Heidi Swapp Color Shine Gold and then dried with a heat tool, and I added the color to the "inside" pieces of the word to match the rest of the butterfly.

Hope was colored with 4 shades of pink copic markers (RV10, R20, RV13 & RV09) – love how that ombre looks!  Since I cut the extra butterfly with the scor-tape on it, all I had to do was peel the backing a little at a time and match up the gold butterfly to the bottom butterfly, and then the word fit in like a little puzzle piece.

The background panel is cardstock with tumbled glass and broken china added with an ink blending tool, and then I dropped Glimmer Mist Pearl here and there to create water droplets. I added a few sequins I received as a thank you to a Neat and Tangled purchase.

I can’t wait for you to see what the rest of the designers have in store for you today ( and this whole week – eek!)  Good stuff!!!  Enjoy!
