WCMDblogbanner2014

Hello lovelies!  It's Shay here with my World Card Making Day challenge.

When I was thinking of different possibilities I kept coming back to something I really love to do which is create backgrounds and also a cool thing called a "masterboard".  In essence you create a sheet of patterned paper and use it in different ways.  I wanted to show how a very simple stamped masterboard could then be cut up and then the panels altered to create different looks.  Alternatively, you could do the same thing with all the panels to easily mass produce cards.

I began by stamping a 8.5 x 11 inch sheet of white cardstock with a leaf from a stamp set that is part of our October 2015 Release which will be available at the end of this month in black ink.

 shay_wcmd2015_a

Then I used Smooch in kiwi, a product that was sitting on my desk that I've had for years and finally used by coloring in the leaves with it following the stroke in the center of each leaf.  Around the green of the leaves I used a white crayon to then act as a resist.

shay_wcmd2015_b

From there I cut the piece of cardstock into four (4) 4.25 x 5.5 inch panels.  On one panel I watercolored in the leaves with crushed olive and forest moss Distress Inks with a waterbrush and then flicked gold spray all over the panel.

shay_wcmd2015_1a

To make a simple card using this panel I cut the panel to 4 x 5.25 inches.  I cut out "grateful" from The Big, the Bold and Blessings Cutaways from gold cardstock and adhered it to a strip of vellum which I attached to the stamped panel.  Then I attached it all to a green card base.

shay_wcmd2015_1b

On another panel I sprayed the panel with peach, gold and mango colored sprays.  I went in and added more of Smooch in kiwi to the leaves.  I allowed it to dry.  Then I stamped the circular patterns found in In Bloom: Lola's Bouquet with Joni Andaya in black ink and colored them in with ripe persimmon Distress Ink with a waterbrush.  Around the leaves I shadowed the left leaves with seedless preserves Distress Ink.

shay_wcmd2015_2a

To create a card from this panel I cut out In a Word: Friend Cutaway from purple cardstock and a piece of chipboard.  I glued together the cardstock and chipboard together and then sprayed "friend" with shimmer and plum sprays.  I attached "friend" to the panel with foam dimensional adhesive.  On a banner cut from white cardstock using the Essentials: Katharine Cutaways I stamped "true" from True in ripe persimmon Distress Ink.  I then adhered the whole panel to a white card base.

shay_wcmd2015_2b

Now your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to build your own masterboard background and create at least one (1) card using your masterboard by Sunday, October 11, 2015 at 11:55 p.m. CST.  For the more ambitious do as many cards as you like from your masterboard and link them up!

I just know you will amaze us. :-)

Prize: One randomly chosen project that is linked up will win $50.00 gift credit to the w&w shop.

WCMDblogbanner2014

Hi Folks! How fun are these challenges?!? I'm so excited to help winnie & walter celebrate World Card Making Day with a challenge of my own ... to ink only a portion of your stamp. The possibilities!!

In my case, I needed something for my pumpkins to sit in, so I found a floral stamp with lots of tiny petals and used those petals to make a field. Here's how:

Since I just wanted a random mix of patterns, I skipped the acrylic block entirely and just used my hands to hold the stamp. Have you done this before? It's kind of like playing in the mud ... feels wrong but it's fun!

Then you just randomly stamp where you need it with a few different colors. If you're making a set of cards, the nice thing is that they will be different every time.

Here's the final card, with an Autumn field. The moon, stars, pumpkins, owl and sentiment are from our featured set of the month Moonlight (since it's featured, it's also on sale this month!) The flower stamp is a chrysanthemum from a soon-to-be-released set : )

Now it's time for you to take a closer look at your stamps and see what you can come up with! Maybe you'll use the lens of a camera, the rings of a tree stump, the doorway of a house, or an interesting pattern of lines. Your portion of the stamp can be the main feature of your card, can add texture, or can be used to build a scene like I did here.

I seriously can't wait to see what you come up with for this challenge! I will be anxiously awaiting your entries : ) Happy WCMD!
-Kelly

Prize: One randomly chosen project that is linked up will win $50.00 gift credit to the w&w shop.

WCMD 2015 | Make it Masculine with Julie

To get all the information about w&w WCMD 2015 CLICK HERE.

WCMDblogbanner2014

Hello w&w family!  It’s Julie here ready to celebrate World Cardmaking Day and my challenge is focused on creating Masculine Cards. Today, I want to share a card I created for my Dad’s birthday.

I think Shay is a genius at making cards for boys and men, but it is always a challenge for me to come up with something new and hopefully he will like it.  This one features a few items I have been hoarding for a long time - a sheet of real wood paper I bought ages ago and my wood veneer stars from Studio Calico.

My Dad lives in Houston, and he is a baseball fan, and when I first started thinking of a card for him, I thought about using the Scenery: V for CheVron set in the Houston Astros Colors, and their symbol is a star.  Take a look!

jmog_dad-birthday_chevron

I used my Fiskars stamp press to align the chevrons so that they could be easily centered and try to leave the same white spacing between each.  The inks are Chalk Ink in Tangerine and Blue Iris.  I thought the real wood paper would be great to cut the In A Word: Happy Cutaway and would have the same look of a baseball bat. I cut 5 more “happy” words with white cardstock to give the word some height.  I was able to place the word happy along the same angle of the chevron and stamp “birthday” from Sugar Rush tucked between the hanging p and y using versamark and white embossed. For the final accent, 5 wood veneer stars sprinkled around.

jmog_dad-birthday_chevron2

This card could be easily replicated for any sports theme and what guy wouldn’t love to get a birthday card featuring their favorite team?  Need more ideas and inspiration for Masculine Cards? How about graphic and bold, or other geometric shapes? Also, consider the hobbies your guy likes, such as cars, fishing, hunting, camping, boating, sports and more? Another idea could be to use bold words or lettering or even textures (both raised or visual) like wood grain, distressing with stamps or tools, or printed text to give interest to the background. I'm so excited to see what you come up with! Have a fun and fabulous card making day!

WCMD 2015 | Use Gold/Metallic with Lydia

WCMDblogbanner2014

Hi there, and happy World Card Making Day!

I hope you are enjoying WCMD here on the Winnie & Walter blog so far, and we do have lots more in store for you with lots of prizes too.... so what's not to enjoy?!?!

So on to my challenge....... 'Use Gold/Metallic'. You have probably guessed by now that I am a little partial to some gold, and with all the fabulous metallic inspiration from last month I thought it would be fun for you to show us yours.

Here's a card that may jump start your creativity.....

DSC06304

Shhhhhh..... I may have used some never seen before goodies... shhhhhh, this is just between us right?!?!

To start I stamped the gorgeous poinsettia and leaves in a light grey ink on to a card layer using the smaller layer from Essentials: Katherine Cutaways, and then coloured with Copic markers. Once this was done I then stamped over the images again using the same stamps but this time with VersaMark, this way I could heat emboss the lines in gold. If I had embossed first the Copics would have stained the embossing, this way gives a much more cleaner look.

DSC06306

I then masked off the images and added some gold splatters using some Gold Color Shine.

I didn't want my sentiment to take any attention from the stunning florals so I used a In A Word Cutaway and embossed this into my card. To do this I use a rubber mat so the die embossing instead of cuts when I run it through my die-cutting machine. When the 'peace' was embossed into my card I covered the work with a Wink Of Stella and some Glossy Accents.

DSC06307

Really hope you play along, we would love to see what you come up with!

Hugs Lydia x

Prize: One randomly chosen project that is linked up will win $50.00 gift credit to the w&w shop.

WCMD 2015 | Sketched with Gayatri

WCMDblogbanner2014

Hello everyone!

Happy World Card Making Day everyone! Gayatri Here today! Welcome to another challenge celebrating World Card Making Day. I have a sketch challenge for you today! Are you ready to play the sketch challenge?

Gayatri_Sketch for WCMD

I have used Halloween elements to draw my sketch because my sample card using the sketch features Moonlight stamp set which is on sale this month and October is Halloween month as well. You don’t have to make a Halloween card. Substitute the elements on the sketch with you own to make your card.

Here is my take on the challenge

Gayatari_Happy Halloween card1

I love stamping. Gives me great pleasure to layer stamped images to achieve that printed look. To add colour to the stamped images, I have sponged some purple ink keeping with the Halloween theme. Moonlight stamp set has so many images in the set which is perfect for layered stamping. To add texture you can heat emboss some of the stamped images. I wanted dimension on my card, so I popped up my sentiment using foam adhesives and sequins to bring the card together. Simple, easy and can be mass produced. Happy Halloween everyone!

Now it is you turn to play along the challenge. I cannot wait to see you what you do with the sketch.

Prize: One randomly chosen project that is linked up will win $50.00 gift credit to the w&w shop.

WCMD 2015 | Color Challenge with Heather

WCMDblogbanner2014

Happy World Card Making Day! I'm so excited to be hosting a color challenge on the Winnie & Walter blog today, and I hope you'll want to play along using the colors aqua, mint, yellow and kraft. :)

To create my card, I started by adding diluted aqua, mint and yellow distress inks to a piece of watercolor paper, then setting it aside to dry.  I then used the Cover Model: Leaf Effect Cutaways (October 2015 Release) on a piece of white card stock.  Once the watercolor paper was dry, I adhered the leaf die cut and several leaves to the front, then trimmed off the left and right edges.  I then adhered the panel to the front of a kraft card base with foam tape.

I stamped one of the leaf images from In Bloom: Renee's Leaves (October 2015 Release) in Versafine Smoky Gray ink before heat embossing them with clear powder.  I then colored them in with the same diluted distress inks that were used on the background.  While the images were drying, I stamped the sentiment from Happiest of Holidays (October 2015 Release) in Versamark ink onto mint card stock, then heat embossed it with white embossing powder.  To finish up, I adhered the sentiment to the card front with foam tape, then cut off portions of the stamped leaves and attached them to the sentiment strip.

If you decide to play along, please link up your card/project using the colors above to my post on the W&W blog here.  I'd love to see what you come up with! :)

Have a great one!

WCMD 2015 | Watercolor with Vanessa

WCMDblogbanner2014

Hello everybody! Vanessa here with a fun challenge for World Card Making Day.

For my challenge, I chose one of my favorite techniques: WATERCOLORS. It's a popular trend right now and I am sure there are many watercolor fans out there! I love that I can create a watercolor card using so many different mediums, like Distress Inks, Gelatos, Watercolor Pencils or real watercolors. It's fun to experiment and most of the time you can not be sure how it turns out :)
Sometimes you think it'll turn out ugly, but once it's dry, you might love it! Ha, or vice versa.

I created two samples for today. Look closely, you might get a peek of the upcoming release!

Here I used Derwent Inktense Pencils to color the gorgeous chrysanthemum (new release!!). I started with a panel of watercolor paper and stamped/heat-embossed the images. Then I applied water to the panel and, using a water tank brush, picked up color from the pencils to color the flower, the leaves and the background. For more fun, I flicked a bit of the color onto the background. After it was dried, I stamped and heat-embossed the sentiment using silver embossing powder. I adhered the panel to the card and finished it off with sequins.

The second card is a sample of playing with watercolors without knowing how it'll turn out. And I have to admit, I love how it turned out. For this background, I used Distress Inks. I pressed my ink pad onto a large acrylic block, spritzed the ink with water and dipped one corner of the watercolor paper panel into it. Then I cleaned the acrylic block and applied a new color. After spritzing it, I dipped the next part of the panel into it and so on. I repeated this with the whole panel until I was satisfied. Then I adhered the dried piece to my card base. I die-cut the rose and leaves from vellum and white card stock, layered them and adhered them to the card. Then I die-cut the "hugs" from card stock and fun foam and adhered it, too. Finally I added sequins.

Now it is your turn! Can't wait to see your take on my watercolor challenge, the possibilities are endless!

Vanessa
