March Color Combo with Heather H (Challenge)

Good morning! Heather here stopping by this morning to share a new Color Combo Challenge with you!

Here is my color inspiration for this month - I don't know if I'm the only one that feels like winter has lasted FOREVER this year, but I felt like a nice bright and happy palette with some dreams of summer days to come was in order!

One of my favorite techniques lately has been playing with alcohol inks to create fun backgrounds - so that is where I started for my color combo on this card. I used Flamingo, Amethyst, and Limeade Alcohol inks for this background, blending with blending solution.

Next I die cut the solid heart from True Dotty Heart Cutaways from white cardstock to use as a base for my cute birdies from So Tweet with Evelin T Designs. I colored the birdies up to match the ink background, just reversing the order of the colors, then die cut with the Coordinating Dies. 

I stamped the big "happy" from In a Word: Happy Coordinating Cutaways in Party Dress ink, and then added a little additional sentiment from Party On with Evelin T Designs stamped in Lime Rickey and trimmed it to a thin strip to mount underneath. I added some foam adhesive behind some of the layers to add a touch of dimension to finish it off!

Now - I have a few favorites from the last Color Challenge to feature! ! So without further ado, here they are!

First up - this GORGEOUS marbled creation from Maryam! I love the pretty colors with that fun background - beautiful!

Next up, next up, this classy and perfect card from Greta pretty much nailed the challenge colors! I love the birch trees and the sentiment pairing, the touch of sparkle from the sequins, and the pretty die cut edge all around!

And finally, isn't this beauty from Megan Beth AMAZING?!?!? Love how crisp and clean it is, and all the different textures and color to her background!

w&w 4th Birthday Bash | Four Challenge with Shay

Hello fellow party goers!  It's Shay here.  I am so excited to bring you my challenge.  To commemorate our 4th birthday I am following up on my One Challenge from our first year and Two Challenge from our second year and Three Challenge from last year.  This year it is the Four Challenge!

Make a new project using the number 4 or four, four colors, four patterns, four layers, four embellishments, four photos, four words or four stamp sets (and so on)...really anyway to incorporate four into your project!  You can focus on a single option or combine the options (for instance a four layer card using four colors + four embellishments).

I began with a background I had created some time ago using mixed medium and distress ink along with Scenery: Classic Diagonal Creative Screenings.  When I have a little time to play I create backgrounds and I find having some background panels sitting awaiting me whenever I need them really a great jumping off point and time saver.

 

I pulled out 4 colors (first use of the number 4) from the background and cut In a Word: Happy Cutaway from each of the cardstock colors so I have 4 happy's (4 again).  I adhered the four happy's to the background panel.  I also cut out the handwritten "happy" from In a Word: Happy Coordinating Cutaways from the 4 same colors and adhered 2 of them to fill in some of the space on the background.  Next I cut out the birthday tile from In a Word: Birthday Tiles Cutaways 3 times out of white cardstock with the last not cutting the "birthday" all the way through.  I glued the fully cutout tiles on top of the one that did not cut out fully.  I adhered the birthday tile to the panel.  Then I filled in the open area of the "birthday" with Nuvo Crystal Drops for some shine and interest.

Last I added 3 greenish enamel dots to the top panel and 3 purple enamel dots to the bottom of the panel and added a white puffy star to the white panel so that there are 4 embellishments on top including the white star and 4 embellishments on the bottom of the card including the white star (4 again!)

w&w 4th Birthday Bash | Watercolor with a Twist Challenge with Heather

Good morning! Heather Hoffman here to share my challenge for the Winnie and Walter 4th Birthday Bash! I'm calling my challenge Watercolors with a Twist - so aside from the obvious of using watercolors in your project, I want you to incorporate another type of coloring as well! It can be Copic or other alcohol markers, colored pencils, even distress ink blending counts! Or you can get creative and add shading with an ordinary #2 pencil, add some white gel pen accents, or pull out your kids crayons. Wherever your imagination and inspiration takes you!

For my card I used my watercolors to create a galaxy background, and my added coloring element is Copic markers for the adorable little critter from Winter Wishes with Evelin T Designs. (I have a past video on my Youtube channel HERE if you want to see how I created a watercolor background)

I colored it in with Copic markers and added some accents with a white gel pen before die cutting with the Coordinating Dies. I tore the edge of a white sheet of paper, mounted it with foam adhesive over my background, then added my sweet seal with foam adhesive as well, but tucking the bottom under the paper so it looked like it was nestled in the snow!

Finished off with a die cut "happy" from In a Word: Happy Cutaways that I die cut two times from white cardstock and layered together to make it a little thicker, and an add on sentiment from In a Word: Happy stamp set heat embossed on a strip of navy cardstock that I hand trimmed into a banner.

November Leading Lady Alice Wertz | Take Three

Hello, all! =) Here is my card for this week's Leading Lady post.

This week I decided to play with the Cover Model: Do You See What I See? Cutaway. I used cardstock in Winnie & Walter colors and used the negatives of the die cut for a colorful background. Once again, I used a cutout of the frame as my guide when I glue those little shapes with foam tape.

For a colorful background like this, a dark sentiment would stand out best, so I used one of the happy words from the In a Word: Happy Coordinating Cutaways and shimmery cardstock for the first part of the sentiment. Since stamping on the background would be challenging, I used my Dymo label maker to create the second half of the sentiment.

Again, this one took some time to make, but I found it therapeutic doing it while watching or listening to my favorite TV or podcasts. Hope you likey! =)

Happy Weekend, my friends! =) Here is my card for this week's Winnie & Walter Leading Lady post.

Ahh... Colorful stamped background is one of my favorite techniques for a clean and simple card, too!

All the flower and leaf stamps are from the In Bloom: Carolina's Florals with Angelica Suarez set. By stamping them all over the card base provided a colorful background without mass and bulk.

The "happy" word is cut from the In a Word: Happy Coordinating Cutaways with black shimmer cardstock for some subtle shine and "everything" is included in the In a Word: Happy stamp set.

WCMD 2017 | Variations Challenge with Shay

Hello there lovelies!  Whew you've made it to the last challenge for this year's WCMD.  The Big Hop! was amazing, right?  How about all those challenges by The Talent to get you inspired?  Well, I am going to further challenge you because I know you can handle it. :-)  I call this challenge the Variations Challenge.

I made you two cards today:



I actually began with the blue card and then decided I wanted another with brighter colors.  Which got me thinking about how you can use the same basic design and come up with variations on it.   I actually love doing this and have done it many times which I will share with you later in this post for more examples.

For each card I stamped the woodgrain star from Comfort + Joy (woodgrain star...be still my heart!) in a pattern that conveys some movement.  The holiday card is using bright, sunny colors while the other is a cool blue-grey.  I also did some second generation stamping for a little more interest.  Then I stamped the sentiment from In a Word: Happy (the stamp set) in black on white cardstock and cut it out using the In a Word: Happy Coordinating Cutaways.  For the birthday card I cut out In a Word: Happy Cutaway from navy cardstock.  I attached the die cuts to the cards using foam dimensional adhesive.  I stamped the supporting sentiment from In a Word: Happy (the stamp set).  Then I embellished with puffy stars and in the case of the holiday card some enamel dots too that coordinated with each of the main 4 colors used.  For the holiday card I attached the panel to a larger black cardstock panel and then to an A2 card base.  For the birthday card I attached the panel to an A2 card base.

I decided to keep with the stars for both cards, but I could have easily changed out the star for a heart or circle for the second card, but still created an interesting variation on the first card.

I wanted to share some other versions of this challenge I have done in the past to help inspire you:

Feminine vs. Masculine using the exact same background with additions of the flowers to the feminine version and touches of vellum while the masculine has a more streamlined aesthetic using just a little navy cardstock as an accent:


For twins boys using the same colors, but variations in images and main focal colors to highlight the boy's individuality.  This is a great way to use a embellishment from the same collection to create several cards:


Same background design with different colors and sentiments and changes in the focal images:

Same supplies with changes in images (from same stamp set) and different sentiment cutaways (dies):

Now your challenge should you choose to accept it is to create one card and then make at least 1 more with variations to the original card.  You can change up the sentiments, the shape, the colors, the embellishments, etc. or all of them.

October Leading Lady Priyadarshini Deshpande aka Piyu | Take One

Today is an especially exciting day as not only is it World Cardmaking Day, but also the debut of our October Leading Lady Priyasarshini Deshpande also known as Piyu!  Piyu caught my attention from the challenges she's entered and especially with this incredible project HERE from our 3rd Birthday Bash challenges.  Her numerous projects were thoughtful, playful, full of joy and color!    

I am really excited to see what Piyu will be creating this month as she takes us on an adventure of her own design on Saturdays in October on the w&w blog.

This is Piyu and I am so thrilled to be here. First of all I would like to thank Shay for giving me this honor. My love for Winnie and Walter products started in 2016 with their 2nd birthday bash celebrations. I was coming back into the world of crafting after a long break and I happened to buy  the lovely W&W stamp set - In Bloom: Addie's Garden. I ended up making 7 projects with it for the challenges but also winning a 75$ voucher. Since then I have become a huge fan of W&W products and challenges.

I love using various techniques in my cards and today I am sharing 3 cards with you made using same stamp set (In a Word: Happy) but different stamping techniques.

Here is my first card - (Simple Stamping)

For this card, I stamped the tiny flowers and leaves from the In the Word: Happy stamp set onto white card stock in grey ink. Then I added the details on the flower with white and red gel pen.

I created the 3D happy sentiment by stamping the word Happy in gray ink first. Then using In a Word: Happy Coordinating Cutaways, I cut 2 "happy", one in red and another in black and adhered it together with an offset.

The black circle and the surrounding inlaid dotted ring is cut using the Big Round Balloon Cutaways.

Now my second card - (Shadow stamping)

For this card, I stamped the tiny flowers and leaves from the In the Word: Happy stamp set onto light grey card stock in white pigment ink. Then I again stamped the same images in dark grey ink with an offset. This created a shadow and light effect. Then I added details with a white gel pen. The happy sentiment is created with using In a Word: Happy Coordinating Cutaways.

The circle in the center is cut using  the Big Round Balloon Cutaways where I semi cut the balloon and adhered the Birthday sentiment stripe on it.

My third card - (Black Magic)

For this cards I stamped the tiny flowers and leaves from the In a Word: Happy stamp set onto black card stock in white pigment ink. I added the shading to the flowers and leaves using prisma colored pencils. Then finally I added a bit of interest using golden gel pen.

The happy sentiment is from In the Word: Happy stamp set. I stamped and embossed the sentiment in gold and then cut it using In a Word: Happy Coordinating Cutaways.
