October 2019 Color Combo (Challenge)

Good morning! Heather here stopping by this morning to share a new Color Combo Challenge with you! Last month (for the second time in a row) we stretched the challenge for two months, since I was traveling to Italy with a friend in September for two weeks, and that gave me extra time off to enjoy that trip!

Here is my color inspiration for this month - I love the warm colors, perfect for this time of year and the thoughts of cozy days inside and books to read seem wonderful:

I began this card by creating an inked heart on the background. To do this, I used the coordinating die for From the Bottom of my Heart to create a stencil, then blended on distress oxide inks in Scattered Straw, Rusty Hinge, and Festive Berries. I also added some black splatters to the background with some Pinkfresh Studio Licorice Liquid Watercolors.

Next I die cut one of the "thanks" words from In a Word: Thanks Coordinating Dies two times, once from black cardstock, and once from white cardstock with Everegreen Bough Distress Oxide Ink blended on to custom color my sentiment to coordinate with the Color Combo.

Finished off by adhering the die cut words together slightly offset for a shadow effect, adhering them to my card base, and stamping a coordinating sentiment underneath with In a Word: Thanks stamp set.

Now - I have a few favorites from the last Color Challenge to feature! I absolutely LOVED everyone's take on this challenge photo! So much fun to see how everyone used it! I wanted to pick everyone, but had to limit myself to these three!

First up - I'm loving this artsy card by Jenny Martin - such a lovely card, and great take on the challenge inspiration!

Next up, I love that Experiments in Craft was inspired much like me by the fun background on the challenge photo! And I love the touch of glitter she added to this fabulous card!

And finally, we have this card by Deepti...beautiful background, LOVE those hearts, and the sentiment is perfection!

August/September Color Combo with Heather (Challenge)

Good morning! Heather here stopping by this morning to share a new Color Combo Challenge with you! Last month we stretched the challenge for two months, since I had a big family vacation planned for the summer. Well...surprise! We are going to do the same thing this month, since I am going to be traveling to Italy with a friend in September for two weeks, and that will give me extra time off to enjoy that trip!

Here is my color inspiration for this month - I was so very inspired not only by the lovely color combo in this photo...but even the pretty background design in the inspiration photo:

I started off by recreating the background using some Gouache Paints - a medium I've been loving more and more lately! I chose some colors from the color combo, and just used a brush to swipe on the colors, mixing a little here and there along the way.

Once that dried, I die cut the detail heart from True Multifaceted Heart Cutaways from white cardstock, tied some twine onto it, and then adhered it onto my background, tucking the top of the twine behind the front of that panel. I also tied a bow on the top of it, using that to hide the adhesive behind the bow.

Finished off by stamping my sentiment from Sentimental: Love on the top, and added a white scallop rectangle from Essentials: Audrey Cutaways layered behind it before mounting on a coordinating blue cardbase.

Now - I have a few favorites from the last Color Challenge to feature!

First up - look at this GORGEOUS card by Aswini - such a lovely card, and perfect capture of the color combo as well!

Next up, I love this little cutie from Becca! This image is one of my favs, and the fun layers make perfect use of the color combo as well!

And finally, this card by Nananas - love the soft textures with the color combo perfectly incorporated!

May Color Combo with Heather (Challenge)

Good morning! Heather here stopping by this morning to share a new Color Combo Challenge with you!

Here is my color inspiration for this month - coming from a beautiful photo I found on Pinterest! To me it looked like an ink blended background - so that is the direction I went on my sample card. Can't wait to see how you all interpret it!

I masked off the bottom of a panel of white cardstock, then blended 3 colors of distress inks over the top portion: Fossilized Amber, Ripe Persimmon, and Seedless Preserves!

I also added some white splatters, then peeled off the masking tape at the bottom. Since it looked like a night sky, I colored up the adorable kitties from Purrfect with Evelin T Designs in simple Warm Gray Copic shades, and die cut them with the coordinating dies. The sentiment is a combination of Wishing You with Evelin T Designs and In Bloom: Frenchy's Festive Florals, with part of the sentiment heat embossed on a strip of black cardstock and popped up with foam adhesive. I also popped the kitties up with foam adhesive.

Finished off with a simple white frame cut with Essentials: Audrey Cutaways - one of my favorite scallop frame dies! I trimmed my inked panel small enough to layer over the top of it, then popped the entire thing on a dark gray cardbase.

Now - I have a few favorites from the last Color Challenge to feature! I loved seeing everyone's take on the neutral colors - such a fun and different style of cards!

First up - this STUNNING card by Rosali! Perfect use of neutrals - and could that little bird be any cuter?!?!?

Next up, an amazing use of super bright and soft neutrals - mostly white by Rahmat! It is hard to make a card with this much white, but she nailed it with all those lovely layers and textures - bravo!!!

Then we have this amazing card from Shona Chambers - THUD! Am I right? Elegant perfection right here folks! Beautiful work!

March Color Combo with Heather H (Challenge)

Good morning! Heather here stopping by this morning to share a new Color Combo Challenge with you!

Here is my color inspiration for this month - I don't know if I'm the only one that feels like winter has lasted FOREVER this year, but I felt like a nice bright and happy palette with some dreams of summer days to come was in order!

One of my favorite techniques lately has been playing with alcohol inks to create fun backgrounds - so that is where I started for my color combo on this card. I used Flamingo, Amethyst, and Limeade Alcohol inks for this background, blending with blending solution.

Next I die cut the solid heart from True Dotty Heart Cutaways from white cardstock to use as a base for my cute birdies from So Tweet with Evelin T Designs. I colored the birdies up to match the ink background, just reversing the order of the colors, then die cut with the Coordinating Dies.

I stamped the big "happy" from In a Word: Happy Coordinating Cutaways in Party Dress ink, and then added a little additional sentiment from Party On with Evelin T Designs stamped in Lime Rickey and trimmed it to a thin strip to mount underneath. I added some foam adhesive behind some of the layers to add a touch of dimension to finish it off!

Now - I have a few favorites from the last Color Challenge to feature! ! So without further ado, here they are!

First up - this GORGEOUS marbled creation from Maryam! I love the pretty colors with that fun background - beautiful!

Next up, next up, this classy and perfect card from Greta pretty much nailed the challenge colors! I love the birch trees and the sentiment pairing, the touch of sparkle from the sequins, and the pretty die cut edge all around!

And finally, isn't this beauty from Megan Beth AMAZING?!?!? Love how crisp and clean it is, and all the different textures and color to her background!
