We were bowled over by the quality of each and every entry - you all certainly seemed to embrace the challenge, with many of you making full use of the inspiration of our muse, but in getting outside of your comfort zone and trying different techniques and designs and we were so impressed - bravo!!
Just to recap, for this challenge we wanted to see you use the look of letterpress/typography in your creations, particularly in the style of Alan Kitching, with extra credit for embracing his style in your work, a new-to-you technique and out-of-your-comfort-zone designs! We loved the results - you guys embraced the challenge even though it was out of your comfort zones!!
We didn't get as many entries as usual for this challenge - maybe I was a bit too challenging with this one! But, saying that, all the entries for this challenge were of an amazing standard, which, as usual, really made picking winners extra difficult! We thought long and hard, and finally arrived at our decision for this column's Hot Gossips (runner-ups) and Gossip Queen (winner)!!
Drumroll please...
I love how Greta H created a stamp from fun foam with her word die, but it's the geometric arrangement of the words into a square that really caught my attention! She made a point of using an old die cut of the word to mimic the grungy feel of Alan Kitching's work. Greta this entry is definitely Hot Gossip!!
Preeti D used gelli printing to create this artistic masterpiece! A mix of word and alphabet dies, some clever techniques, very close attention to detail in the colours and finish, and an almost puzzle-like arrangement of the sentiment had me staring at this card in wonder for hours! Preeti this stunner rightfully makes you Hot Gossip!!
And that brings us to our type-tastic Gossip Queen...
Maryam.... this girl always goes above and beyond for The Gossip Column challenge - and this challenge was no exception! With a range of techniques and looks I was almost spoilt for choice with how she interpreted Alan Kitching's work into her cards. But this number stood out for the mix of grungy, heavy type, with the almost shy accompanying sentiment. The white space echoing around the design only compounds and reinforces the sentiment too. As usual she pushed herself way outside of her comfort zone as well, which I thoroughly applaud. I couldn't help but name her Gossip Queen!!
