w&w 3rd Birthday Bash | Ink Smooshing Challenge with Heather H.

w&w_b3rdb_challengefinal

Hello! Heather H. here to share my challenge for the Winnie and Walter 3rd Birthday Bash celebration! I was trying to think of a challenge that would be a little fun and different - and realized I don't remember seeing a challenge all about "Ink Smooshing" - so decided to go with that! Here is the card I made using this fun technique:

So - in case you aren't familiar with the term and technique of "ink smooshing" I will explain a bit! Basically the idea is to use some form of water reactive ink (distress ink is what I used and it works fabulously!). There are a few different ways to do it, and you can play around and find what works best for you - but I'll share my favorite way. Use a piece of clear acetate or an empty stamp storage envelope (which is what I use). Rub your ink pads directly on this piece - you can use one, two, or several colors. It is fun to do them in a pattern - I did some wavy stripes for this card. At this point, either mist this piece with water - or my preferred way is to mist my piece of watercolor paper that I'm going to do my smooshing on. Press the inked piece directly onto the dampened watercolor paper, and use your fingers to "smoosh" the color around until you are happy with it. Seriously SOOOO fun - and it comes out different all the time! LOVE that! Then set it aside to dry and finish your card!

On this card, I heat embossed my sentiment (built from Welcome to the Family and Big Hugs) on the watercolor paper before smooshing over the top of it. I also die cut my Scallop frame first using Essentials: Lana Cutaways. I stamped the darling elephant from Welcome to the Family, die cut with the coordinating Welcome to the Family Dies, then colored it up softly with some Copic markers and a touch of white gel pen accents. Mounted that with foam adhesive, added a few sparkly clear sequins, and mounted the entire panel with foam adhesive on a soft blue card base.

Thanks so much for joining the party today! Looking forward to seeing what you make for this and all the other fun challenges!
