October Color Combo with Heather H. (Challenge)

Good morning! Heather here stopping by this morning to share a new Color Combo Challenge with you! Thanks again to everyone who has played along so far - make sure and look for winners and a few featured players at the bottom of this post!

And here is my color inspiration for this month:

This month's inspiration is was something that I started off thinking of as a soft fall color combo, and somehow it ended up coming out as this bright and happy card! I can't wait to see your different takes on this color palette! 

I ended up using lots of different inks and Scenery: Stripes to create a diagonal plaid pattern! SOOO much fun and a lot easier than I previously imagined! I used my MISTI to help me line up the stripes, and basically started at the bottom of the color palette and worked my way up, picking a different stripe to build with each time. I added a cute little critter from Happy Dance with Evelin T Designs stamped with the same yellow cardstock that is peeking out from under the plaid layer, and a speech bubble from Sketchy Thoughts stamped in a soft gray ink with the sentiment stamped over the top. The coordinating dies for Happy Dance and Sketchy Thoughts made quick work of cutting those out, and I added a few white Tonic Nuvo Drops in white scattered around the background for fun!

Now - I have a few favorites from the last Color Challenge to feature! Every single project was lovely, but I thought I'd give a shout out to a few that especially caught my eye! You guys seriously make it SOOO hard for me to choose a favorite! I had so many windows open on my blog as I tried to choose and narrow it down! After agonizing for a good while over it, here is what I got it narrowed down to:

First up - this card by Michele - look at the fun texture on that mitten and those berries! And I love the perfect rustic feel of this color combo that she captured on her card! So fun!

Next - this adorable card from Janis! I ADORE her gorgeous night sky background! What a fun way to use this color combo! 

Next up this soft and lovely beauty by Susanne - the warm colors work perfectly for the hugs sentiment! This card makes me think of getting a warm cozy hug in an envelope!

And last but certainly not least, Greta has this stunning card! Such a lovely and soft take on the color combo - I adore the simple uncluttered feel, and the perfect sprinkling of leaves, paired up with that red twine at the top! GORGEOUS!

October Leading Lady Priyadarshini Deshpande aka Piyu | Take Two

I am back here with my 2nd post for October. Thank you so much for your kind comments on my post last week.

Today I am sharing a couple of cards using my favorite coloring technique. i.e the no line coloring.
My first card is made with my all time favorite stamp set In Bloom: Anna's Flora.

I stamped the sunflowers and leaves in Antique linen distress ink on watercolor paper. While stamping, I used masking technique to get the flowers and leaves overlapped. Then I colored the images with  Zig markers and added details using prisma colored pencils.

For the sentiment, I cut the word celebrate using In a Word: Celebrate Cutaway - once in black and once in white card stock. I adhered the white celebrate on black with an offset to give a 3-D effect. Then I fussy cut one side of flowers and leaves and adhered it to White card stock with a foam tape. This gave a pop up effect.

Finally I added the sentiment, Washi tape and some dew drops.

Now moving on to my second card. I have used the Wish Big with Evelin T Designs stamp set.

First, I stamped the cupcake and cherries in Sugar spun distress ink and colored them with Prisma colored pencils.

I stamped the sentiment, again from the same stamp set, at the bottom of the cupcake. Then I cut the largest scalloped rectangle from the Essentials: Audrey Cutaways  and adhered the cupcake with sentiment on it.

I distressed the edges of a cardstock using cracked pistachio distress oxide ink and finally mounted the scalloped rectangle on it.

Big Birthday Wishes with Vanessa

Hello everybody! Vanessa here today with a cute birthday card!

I love the new Wish Big with Evelin T Designs set, it has so many versatile elements. When I looked at the "Big Birthday Wishes" sentiment, I thought the cute elephant of the Welcome to the Family with Evelin T Designs set would be a perfect match for it:

I first inked the bottom portion of a white card base with light orange ink and spritzed some ink droplets onto it. After it was dried, I stamped the sentiment and adhered the panel to the orange card base. Now I stamped the elephant, colored it with Copics, die-cut it with the matching die and adhered it with foam tape. I stamped the flag, paper-pieced it, die-cut it and adhered it to the card. Finally, I added matching sequins.

WCMD 2017 | Variations Challenge with Shay

Hello there lovelies!  Whew you've made it to the last challenge for this year's WCMD.  The Big Hop! was amazing, right?  How about all those challenges by The Talent to get you inspired?  Well, I am going to further challenge you because I know you can handle it. :-)  I call this challenge the Variations Challenge.

I made you two cards today:



I actually began with the blue card and then decided I wanted another with brighter colors.  Which got me thinking about how you can use the same basic design and come up with variations on it.   I actually love doing this and have done it many times which I will share with you later in this post for more examples.

For each card I stamped the woodgrain star from Comfort + Joy (woodgrain star...be still my heart!) in a pattern that conveys some movement.  The holiday card is using bright, sunny colors while the other is a cool blue-grey.  I also did some second generation stamping for a little more interest.  Then I stamped the sentiment from In a Word: Happy (the stamp set) in black on white cardstock and cut it out using the In a Word: Happy Coordinating Cutaways.  For the birthday card I cut out In a Word: Happy Cutaway from navy cardstock.  I attached the die cuts to the cards using foam dimensional adhesive.  I stamped the supporting sentiment from In a Word: Happy (the stamp set).  Then I embellished with puffy stars and in the case of the holiday card some enamel dots too that coordinated with each of the main 4 colors used.  For the holiday card I attached the panel to a larger black cardstock panel and then to an A2 card base.  For the birthday card I attached the panel to an A2 card base.

I decided to keep with the stars for both cards, but I could have easily changed out the star for a heart or circle for the second card, but still created an interesting variation on the first card.

I wanted to share some other versions of this challenge I have done in the past to help inspire you:

Feminine vs. Masculine using the exact same background with additions of the flowers to the feminine version and touches of vellum while the masculine has a more streamlined aesthetic using just a little navy cardstock as an accent:


For twins boys using the same colors, but variations in images and main focal colors to highlight the boy's individuality.  This is a great way to use a embellishment from the same collection to create several cards:

Hi everyone, and happy World Card Making Day!

The Winnie & Walter Talent are setting some creative challenges for you guys throughout the day to celebrate this amazing day, and yes, there will be the chance to win some wonderful prizes so why not take part?!

My challenge for you is Background Building / Pattern Making - this is such a versatile challenge and means you can use any product, from stamps to dies. And what’s more, the background doesn’t always have to fill the whole page - its just a focal element for your project. Here’s some cards I made using the latest release:

Background pattern using small background stamps

For this card, I used the Mini Scenery: Round and Round image, lined it up at an angle on my MISTI and stamped. Between each impression, I moved my panel of white cardstock up or down and changed the colour of the ink - this gives a sense of depth! I then trimmed the panel down, mounted to a card base and adhered some wood veneer shapes. The sentiment comes from Wish Big with Evelin T Designs.

Inky stencilled background

I created the background for this card using Dylusions Ink Sprays and the Scenery: Do You See What I See? stencil. I began by adding ink droplets onto a block of acetate, spritzing a panel of watercolour cardstock liberally with water, laying down the stencil on top of the damp cardstock and then quickly turning the inked up acetate block upside down and face down. The idea is that the ink filters through the stencil and onto the cardstock, leaving you with a sort of ethereal background when you lift the stencil away and heat set. The results are different every time! To finish, I trimmed the panel down, stamped a sentiment from Wish Big with Evelin T Designs and foam mounted to a card base. The little elephant from Happy Dance with Evelin T Designs was coloured with Copics, fussy cut and foam mounted to the card front.

Repeat stamping

The background for this was relatively easy as I used images from one stamp set and repeatedly stamped then around a circle. I began by marking up a panel of white cardstock with guidelines for where I would need to stamp at equal distances, started with the smallest images from In a Word: Happy (the stamp set) in the centre and ended with one of the large sentiments around the outside. I stamped the same sentiment in the centre with black dye ink and added a supporting sentiment that had been heat embossed in white on a strip of black cardstock.

Emboss resist background

I think this background could be the most fun to create, as again, its fairly easy to create. I repeatedly stamped the outline flower from In Bloom:Shirley's Blooms with Versamark onto a panel of white cardstock, sprinkled with white embossing powder and heat set. I then just scribbled various ZIG Clean Color Real Brush Pens all over the embossed areas and liberally spritzed with water to get the colours moving and mixing. I heat set again and for a bit of shine, I sponged some Delicate Golden Glitz with an ink dauber in the centre of the flowers. I trimmed the panel down and used one of the dies from In a Word: Birthday Tiles Cutaways to die-cut a sentiment from the centre. Everything was then foam mounted to a card base and embellished with gold sequins.

WCMD 2017 | Smooshing Challenge with Lydia

Hi there,and happy World Card Making Day! I hope you are enjoying WCMD here on the Winnie & Walter blog so far, and we do have lots more in store for you with lots of prizes too…. so what’s not to enjoy?!?! So on to my challenge……. ‘Smooshing'. So it can be any kind of smooshing, watercolour, ink, marker..... and as little or as much as you like as long as I see a little smooshing happening I will be one happy girl! So onto my card....

 
I started by adding inks in autumn shades to a craft sheet. I then spritzed water onto the inks to help them move. I then took a sheet of watercolour cardstock and placed this on top of the spritzed ink. I moved it around a little to get more ink on the card but not too much as I didn't want the colours to blend into each outer too much. I left this to dry.

 

Once dry I heat embossed lots of different leaves onto this sheet using Renee's Leaves, and fussy cut them out. Before sticking these onto a white card blank I added a few splatters of ink to the background. Then I arranged the leaves onto the splattered blank and stuck them down. For the sentiment I cut one of the words from The Big, The Bold and Blessings out of some gold foil card and added this on top of the leaves.

WCMD 2017 | CAS Challenge with Heather H.

Good afternoon! Heather H. here celebrating World Card Making Day with you, and I'm super excited to be hosting a CAS (Clean and Simple) Challenge for you today! When I first started cardmaking, it was one of the hardest styles for me, and as time has gone on it has slowly become one of my favorites! Here is my CAS card for today:

For my card I started by stamping Mini Scenery: Multifaceted on a piece of white cardstock with clear embossing ink. I used my MISTI to immediately stamp the church from Our Town over the top in Versamark ink THREE times for a nice crisp impression. I then sprinkled clear embossing powder over the entire thing and heat set. Next, I used Squeezed Lemonade and Chipped Sapphire Distress Inks to blend over the background. The embossed areas resist the ink which makes it super fun! I then used my paper trimmer to trim it out leaving a tiny border, stamped my sentiment from Sentimental: Winter on a white cardbase, then mounted the inked panel with foam tape over the top.

WCMD 2017 | Anything But a Card Challenge with Kelly

Well "hello" Folks! Although it's officially World CARD Making Day, I am actually going to challenge you to make anything but a card! I'm always looking out for fun gifts to make friends and family, and cute ways to decorate the house, so I [selfishly] thought it would be great to have a gallery packed with lots of clever projects. Especially with the holidays coming up so quickly!

Any time I see a photo of a door with text on it I get happy, so it was only natural that I added this project to my crafty to-do list. TWO YEARS AGO. Yes, for the last two years I've been meaning to add a "hello" to my front door, but hadn't gotten around to it. Part of the reason is that all the pinterest photos I loved featured normal, solid doors with a scripty hello across the front, like the photo above.

However, my front door, as you can see above, does not have a logical space for adding a greeting. So that's where my project stalled.

Then it dawned on me that I could just make a small greeting and put it above the handle. So I got out my Silhouette, spent two hours scrolling through fonts to find just the right script, looked up a tutorial on how to curve text around a path, searched around to figure out which key in the font adds the tail before and after the word, etc. Basically, my little project ended up taking two days to complete. Still worth it, but not as quick as I thought.

Then it dawned on me further ... I already have a well-designed "hello" die ready and waiting in my craft room!

The In a Word: Hello Cutaway is the perfect size for the space above the front door lock! I couldn't wait to see what it would look like on my last remaining door. In less than a minute, I ran the die through with some Siser Vinyl and put some contact paper over it. (Hot Tip: I had always been reluctant to use the vinyl because the transfer paper was so darn expensive. After running out of transfer paper one day, I used regular contact paper to see what would happen. It worked! What do you know.)

Tear the backing away, position it above the lock and burnish onto the door.

Peel off. Are you still with me? By now, we're probably on minute #3 of this project if you count the time it takes to walk from your craft room to the door. 

Done! Definitely under 5 minutes. The best thing is that it will stay forever, yet is easily removable in case you get tired of it (what?) or need to repaint. No crazy glued-to-the-wall wallpaper scenario here. I actually might change it up soon, as there are lots of other words that would work well ... In a Word: Cheers, In a Word: Hi, In a Word: Home are all good options. My family is really the only ones who use this door since it's from my garage to the mudroom, which means I could go out on a limb and also use words like Peace, Shine, Merry (next month), Hugs, or Joy.

The best thing is I get a smile every time I come home. Priceless.
