>>>THE GOOD STUFF<<<

Let's get to the fun part and see what Julie, Shay, our guest stars, Diane Jaquay and Jenny Martin (our fabulous winners of the Playdate No. 2 challenge) and The Talent (our supernova creative team) made with it. And make sure you visit Diane's, Jenny's and each of The Talent's blogs for more knock-it-out-of-the-park projects and details.  Don't forget to share some love with them too!

Julie

If you caught my Instagram sneak peek, you know that last night (yes, last night) I was channeling my inner Tim Holtz!  I actually started a second tag, but there were some technical difficulties.  It may crop up later in the fall (hint hint).  For now, I am sharing my winter tag - just the thing for a hot summer San Antonio evening!  Winter in July!

Ok - I admit it - I'm in love with the w&w digital files.  Can you tell???  But first, let me tell you a little about this background - a Tim Holtz technique or two here.  First, I started with the Marbled Stains technique I learned in his first Online Card Class.  This is where you put some Picket Fence Distress Stain on your mat, and then add Distress Stains in your favorite colors all around it, but not touching the white.  Unfortunately, not many distress stains here in my stash, so I used my inks, but added a little water to them on the mat, and I wet my tag before swiping it through the ink.  After I dried the tag with a heat tool, I added some Stormy Sky to the edges to just enhance it a bit.

The little snowflakes from The Big, the Bold and Seasons are stamped 3 ways on this background.  First, I applied more Picket Fence Distress Stain to the stamp, stamped it on the tag, and dried it immediately.  This technique can leave a pale image but if dried quickly, the image is more opaque.  Lots of depth here.  Second, I stamped in versamark and embossed with white EP.  And finally, there are a few scattered snowflakes stamped in Tsukineko's Encore Ultimate Metallic Ink in Silver.

The same snowflake image is also in the coordinating w&w digital files for The Big, the Bold and Seasons, and I cut it large enough to stand out on my tag.  I ran it through my Xyron (do any of you still have yours? I have hoarded my sticky rolls - good thing!!!) and added Martha Stewart Crystal Course Glitter for that fabulous icy / crystal look.

The "winter" was also cut using the files.  I enlarged the word, and also cut an offset to add as a base.  The base is also inked with the same yummy silver ink and then the thinner version glued on top.  Now, it wouldn't be a Tim Holtz-esque tag without some Rock Candy Stickles, right?  Although it may be difficult to see here, I did add the rock candy to the white area of the winter word - more icy goodness.  The new little word "bliss" is also in the Seasons set and is stamped here in faded jeans and edged in silver.  All of the elements are popped up on foam tape.  Last but not least - BLING - a little silver glitter tape to the bottom, a few sequins in silver, clear iridescent and frost, and a large clear gemstone I found in my stash.

Wondering what you think of our little icons we added to this new Big Bold set?  I know we are absolutely loving them and hope you do too!

Shay

Isn't Julie's tag fantastic?  So much dimension, layers, shimmer and shine!  Well, I am going in an entirely different direction with very little dimension. :-)

I did a quartet of one layer cards that are pretty busy. lol  Using Scenery: It's a Wonderful Pennant (premiered yesterday and the giveaway is still open...wink) I stamped in three colors of Tim Holtz Distress Ink per season.  To choose the colors I followed Tim Holtz's cue and went with the trio of colors that were originally packaged for each season.  For spring: squeezed lemonade, shaded lilac and peacock feathers.  For summer: mowed lawn, picked raspberry and salty ocean.  For autumn: gathered twigs, seedless preserves and ripe persimmon.  For winter: evergreen bough, iced spruce and festive berries.  I came up with a pattern and just stamped each the same way using the different colors and two slightly different patterns of pennants.

I stamped the season sentiment in Versamark and heat embossed it in white.  I then overstamped the sentiment slightly off in light grey.  Using the grey ink as a template I went over it with a darker grey Copic (C7).

For less of an imperfect look of the stamping you can use inks like Hero Arts Shadow Inks which give an excellent even coverage.  I went with the Distress Ink for color and also the imperfections add some more interest to these very simple cards.

I can imagine these cards being very lovely if instead of stamping the sentiments directly on the background, you stamp the sentiment on a piece of vellum and adhere it over the  pattern for a softer appearance (perhaps by sewing)...I think these may be cards that I revisit.  Do you ever have cards that are almost the beginning of another card?

You will want to check out Gayatri's blog for a lovely quartet of seasonal cards.
