Lots of Happy Birthday Wishes with Kelly

Hi Folks! As soon as I saw the new In a Word: Birthday Tiles Cutaways from the latest release, I knew I wanted to use them all on the same card! But how to fit them? I thought stringing them up like banners might work, so I went to work cutting out a bunch of words.

It was a little difficult reading all the words cut from different patterned papers when they were just against the white card base, so I cut a second banner and layered it behind. Now they are easier to read, and a little more colorful and festive. Go big, right?

They are loosely strung with hemp cord across the top of the card. I like how they dangle and move when you handle the card. I also dangled a curlicue piece from Goldie Trim Cutaways and a small fiber.

The "happy" is also from the latest release (In a Word, Happy Coordinating Cutaways) and completes the "happy birthday" sentiment. The long tail at the beginning of "happy" became very useful, as I was able to attach it to the card by knotting the hemp around it.

While I was cutting each word from patterned paper, I figured I might as well cut all the other words as long as I was running it through the machine...

and then it was easy to make a few more cards!

This way they will be much easier to let go : )

Ahh, happy colors!

Lots of happy birthday wishes here! And once I figured out the first card, the rest were so quick to assemble.

Sure hope you are having fun with these handy birthday words if you happen to have them already. And if not, you can look at them here!

Thanks so much for looking!

September Leading Lady Hussena Calcuttawala | Take Two

Our September Leading Lady, Hussena Calcuttawala is back for her sensational second performance!  If you missed her smashing debut you must see it...CLICK HERE.   Today's duet of cards are a celebration of bright, vibrant happy color!

Ladies and gentlemen, Hussena....

Hello everyone!

I am back for my second post at the w & w blog. Today I will be sharing cards I made using products from the new August release.

Again, I am starting out with a floral card first :

To make this card, I stamped and die-cut some flowers and leaves from the In Bloom: Shirley's Blooms stamp and die set. For the flowers, I have used two different colored dye inks for contrast between the inner and the outer petal. I also did some pencil shading using Prismas on the centres of the flowers.

I stamped the polka dot circles using stamps from the Ring in the Celebration set. I then die-cut the buds using the dies from In Bloom: Shirley's Blooms Cutaways.

To die-cut the frame, I first stamped the scalloped circle with Versafine Onyx Black ink and then die-cut it out using the coordinating dies from the Ring in the Celebration Cutaways.

I also die-cut a card panel using the largest rectangle scalloped frame die from the Essentials: Audrey Cutaways set. My background was created by randomly stamping the black rings from the Shirley's Blooms set. I also colored in these rings using Prismacolor pencils.  Finally I popped the flowers and leaves on foam dots. The sentiment is from an older set - The Big, the Bold and You.

For my second card I have created a fun shaker :)

I decided to work with some soft colours. I started by stamping my card panel with three tiny images from the Ring in the Celebration set. I used different shades of dye inks to stamp them.

The little cake in the centre of the card was stamped and die cut using the coordinating die from the same set. I also added two more stamped and die-cut circle frames, one with a sentiment around it and one a decorative frame. Both were popped on foam dots. The ribbon banner and the sentiment is again from a old set - The Big, the Bold and Extras. I finished off the card by adding a little bit of Clear Stickles to the stars, the cake and the centre of the gift bows.

I love how this came together really quick - the set is perfect for making birthday cards and pretty tags which I shall be sharing in my next post. The Ring in the Celebration set is really very versatile and I'm definitely going to be reaching for it soon.

I hope you liked my cards and are inspired to create your own. I would love to hear what you think of them. Don't forget to comment on my blog post for a chance to win the $30 gift certificate to the Winnie & Walter store. Winner will be announced on my blog, at the end of the month.

Have a great day ahead!

Rerun No. 23 | Hello with Lydia

Hello there everyone and happy Friday! It's Lydia here with you today and I'm sharing a card using this month's Re-Run set- A Tree For All Seasons.

I started by cutting a card panel slightly smaller than my card base then took the funky chevron, maple leaf and stamped this repeatedly all over. I used a mix of blue, yellow, orange and brown ink and tried not to put two of the same colour leaves next to each other.

Once I was happy with the stamping I cut In A Word: Hello Cutaway from the center on the stamped layer. I adhered the cut panel (without the hello) onto my card blank. I then cut the 'hello' die four more times out of white cardstock and stacked them on top of each other and added the stamped one on top. Once this was dry I added this back into place on the card.

To finish I added a Wink Of Stella to the 'hello' and some glossy accents to help the 'hello' be a little more noticeable. Thanks so much for stopping by today and I hope you like the card!

Hugs, Lydia xxx

Wish Big with Vanessa

Hello everyone! Vanessa here with a colorful birthday card using the newly released stamps and dies!

I couldn't wait to play with the In a Word: Birthday Tiles Cutaways and wanted to make them the stars of my card:

I first inked the front of a white card base with Distress Inks and an Ink Blending Tool. It may look like I used green and orange, but I only used blue, yellow and pink!

Then I trimmed a panel from the same cardstock to fit the front of the card and die-cut the words from it. After I had adhered the panel to the card, I stamped and heat-embossed the numbers from Wish Big with Evelin T Designs and the sentiment from Sentimental: Birthday onto black cardstock, die-cut the numbers with the matching dies and trimmed off a strip with the sentiment.

I adhered the numbers and the sentiment to the card, using foam tape for the sentiment, and finished the card off with matching sequins.

Don't you love these dies? They are so fun to play with! Thank you so much for visiting today, see you next month!!

September Color Combo with Heather H. (Challenge)

Good morning! Heather here stopping by this morning to share a new Color Combo Challenge with you! Thanks again to everyone who has played along so far - make sure and look for winners and a few featured players at the bottom of this post!

And here is my color inspiration for this month:

This month's inspiration is warm and cozy - and makes me think of fall!

I had fun using some dies from the newest release for this card, and breaking out some fun cozy fall pattern papers to layer up! I started off by die cutting the "happy" from In a Word: Happy Coordinating Dies (this die in particular works great as a stand-alone die!) from black cardstock. I then used In a Word: Birthday Tiles Cutaways die cut from kraft (which I used for the frame), white (which I used for the center) and then backed with some fun pattern paper. I also glued back in the centers of the "B", "R", "D", and "A" - although it looked fun without them as well. I layered up some pretty pattern papers, tucked a bit of doily underneath, and tied some jute twine around it all when I was finished.

Now - I have a few favorites from the last Color Challenge to feature! Every single project was lovely, but I thought I'd give a shout out to a few that especially caught my eye! Last month was a super unusual color combo, so I had fun seeing everyone's different takes on it! You guys seriously make it SOOO hard for me to choose a favorite! I had so many windows open on my blog as I tried to choose and narrow it down! After agonizing for a good while over it, here is what I got it narrowed down to:

First up - this card by Crystal Thompson! Just like it says - it is a PARTY! LOVE how the colors are all incorporated, but it's still so light and airy feeling! And all the different patterns and textures - this is one YUMMY card - I just had to share it!

Next - I LOVE this bold and striking set from Janis! The trio of stars on both the card and gift bag tie it all so nicely together - seriously makes me happy!

Next up this dreamy beauty from Rachel Vass - gorgeous isn't it?!?!? The stenciling is fabulous, and the bit of detail added to the leaves on the stencil just pushes it up to the next level. Add that lovely flower and sentiment, sweet scallop edge, and the soft and sheer ribbon, and it's just perfect!

And then we have another card with stars on it! This stunning creation by Susanne V is amazing! I love the gold embossing on the stars, and the almost stained glass feel of the the coloring on the stars as well! The jaunty angle of the panel, and the snazzy border and coordinating sentiment finish this off perfectly!

And finally - this one from Helen was just too fun to not share! LOVE how she used the colors in the same order as the inspiration, then added some interest with the fun stamped border before die cutting her sentiment out of the middle and popping it out! GREAT take on the challenge!

No. 3 | Crystal Thompson

Crystal made this fabulous, joyous card which has all sorts of lovely details like using stamps to create patterns on the balloons and the silver dimensional spots in the background for our August Color Combo Challenge.  Crystal's card also happened to be one of Heather's pick for good reason.

And since we had so many gorgeous, colorful entries (and because I just feel like it and one the perks of being the boss at w&w is I can do these things on a whim!) I randomly chose one of the Heather's favorite cards featured above to also win as well!

No. 24 | Helen

Helen crafted this eye-catching and bold card sure to make its recipient smile!  I really love the blocks of vertical color which she added interest with by stamping a border from Scenery: The Party Hangover and then Helen carried those vertical blocks of color onto the dimensional "hello".

September Leading Lady Hussena Calcuttawala | Take One

What an exciting day as we get to introduce our September Leading Lady, Hussena Calcuttawala!
Hussena creates these stunningly beautiful, well balanced and layered cards that are real showstoppers and we have certainly noticed her work when she's entered our challenges!  In a fact we invited her to be on the w&w blog a while back and you can see here work HERE and  HERE.  I am really excited to see what Hussena will be creating this month as she takes us on an adventure of her own design on Saturdays in September on the w&w blog.

Please give Hussena a big round of applause to welcome her as she steps onto the stage for her first performance as our September Leading Lady!

Hello everyone, this is Hussena and I'm super duper thrilled and excited to be the leading Lady at w & w this month. Winnie and Walter is a company which is very close to my heart as they were the first company internationally to give recognition to my work and invite me over as a Spotlight Designer. It was a big deal for me back then and still is. Needless to say, I really love their products. Their stamps, dies and stencils are amazing to work with and I love playing along their Birthday Bash challenges every year. Thank you so very much Shay, for this wonderful opportunity :)

I am sharing two cards today I made using some previously released stamp and die sets from w & w.

For my first card, I HAD to go with florals :) w & w has some of the most beautiful flower stamps, perfect for colouring and since watercolouring is so much in trend these days, these stamps worked perfectly for my design idea.

I stamped the flowers, leaves and the the little berries from the In Bloom: Anna's Flora, In Bloom: Elsa's Flora and In Bloom: Renee's Leaves stamp sets on some watercolour cardstock using Versafine Onyx Black ink and coloured them using my Zigs. I fussy-cut the images and kept them aside. My stenciling on the background was done with a very light hand using the w & w Creative Screening : Do You See What I See? with Peacock Feathers Distress ink. I added some black acrylic paint splatters as I knew I was going to arrange my florals against them.

I popped up some flowers and leaves on foam dots and for few of the images, I directly adhered them to my card front. Finally I heat-embossed the sentiment from the The Big, Bold & Party using White embossing powder.

My second card which is very fun and perfect for a birthday party!

I have gone with the VIBGYOR colours on this one. To create this card, I first die-cut my card panel using the scalloped frame die from the w & w : Essentials: Audrey Cutaway die set. Then, I stamped the yummy cupcakes from the Sugar Rush stamp set using various shades of dye inks. I did some masking to give a clean and crisp look to the scalloped frame.

I then started working on the focal of my card. I used the In a Word: Happy Cutaway and die-cut it using white cardstock and added some black cardstock behind the die-cut to give it a shadow effect. I coloured the white die-cut piece using various shades of Zig markers.

You can see the dimension on the die-cut as well as the glitter on the outlines in the picture below.

I then stamped the cupcake frosting and also filled in the remaining space in the background by stamping stars all over. The banner is also from the same set.

To add more interest and detail to my card, I stamped the entire background behind my card front by masking it with Washi Tape. I used the bottom of the small cupcake stamp to create the wavy chevron pattern you see. I think it really adds a lot more to my card :)

I hope you liked my cards and are inspired to create your own. I would love to hear what you think of them. I will be back next week with another set of cards using the new August release sets from w & w. Don't forget to comment on my blog post for a chance to win the $30 gift certificate to the Winnie & Walter store. Winner will be announced on my blog, at the end of the month.

Have a great day ahead!
