March Leading Lady Nicole Picadura | Take One

Nicole_Picadura_march2017

Today is the first Saturday of March which means the debut of our March Leading Lady, Nicole Picadura!  Nicole is a complete and utter sweetheart and very gifted.  She works for Altenew as part of their leadership team as well as starting to a couple of design stamp sets for them very recently!

Originally from South Korea, she now lives in sunny California with her husband and furry babies.  With her clean and simple aesthetic taking on different techniques and a love for teaching (she taught a couple of classes in the past featuring our releases back in 2015), I think this going to be a very inspiring month for us all.

Please give Nicole a big round of applause to welcome her as she steps onto the stage for her first performance as our March Leading Lady!

Happy Saturday! Every Saturday throughout this month, I will be sharing projects using some brand-new and some well loved older products from Winnie & Walter. We will play with various mediums so you can get more out of your W&W stash!

Multifaceted stamps and cutaways from W&W have always been my favorites. It can add so much texture and interest without using a lot of supplies. Today's card uses the True Multifaceted Heart Cutaways as a focal point, along with some sentiment stamps.

To create this focal point, I ran the die through the die cut machine using some white cardstocks. There are 2 die cut pieces, so you are going to layer the detailed cut piece on top of the solid piece to create a template. I used a texture paste and a coral/pink ink pad to dress up the heart. Start with the white texture paste to go over the bottom portion of the heart with a craft knife. After that, mix the white texture paste with the coral ink pad to add some color! Simply run the colored paste over the top portion of the heart, that way you will get this ombre of coral/pink/white shade.

After adding the paste, carefully lift the detailed die cut piece from the heart and let the embossed piece dry for a couple of hours. For the card background, I combined various stamps to create a gray shade gradient. The stamp sets I used are The Big, the Bold, and the Happy stamp set, Sending You with Evelin T Designs stamp set, and the Sentimental: Love stamp set. I started with a dark gray ink pad and went on to a light gray ink pad and stamped from the top to bottom of the card base.

As a finishing touch, I added a shimmer onto the heart so add some shine to the focal point. There are various ways to add colors, and using a die with embossing paste and inks can be a fun way to bring both texture and color yo your projects!

w&w 3rd Birthday Bash | Special Guest Star Emily Leiphart {Video}

birthdaybashspecialgueststar-emily

Today's special guest star, Emily Leiphart is no stranger to the w&w blog as a fantastic former Leading Lady and special guest star.  We love having her guest whenever possible as she's such a lovely person and her projects are always a joy to behold.  To see her past w&w blog projects please CLICK HERE.

Now it's Emily turn to take over the w&w blog....

Hi, everyone! Today, I have the pleasure of guesting on the Winnie & Walter blog to celebrate their 3rd Birthday! I made a set of four cards using six different stamp and die sets. I used holiday penguins to make everyday winter cards for love and encouragement.

I love the darling penguins and snowman from Season's Tweetings with Evelin T Designs so I wanted to feature them. I turned them into everyday winter critters by pairing them with sentiments from Sentimental: Love and Sentimental: Endearments. The clean and scripted combination of these fonts makes them a must-have.

I lightly colour-washed the frames to use them as background anchors for the critters and also as a base for stamping the sentiments. To create the textured background panels, I used uncut Typecast: Cary Letters Cutaways to dry emboss white linen cardstock.

For final embellishments, I added some sparkling clear sequins to all of the cards.

Be sure to visit THIS Winnie & Walter post for full details on their month-long celebration, as well as a grand prize giveaway. You don't want to miss it!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

For today's project I pulled out my Prismacolor colored pencils and sort of went to town.

I had a baggie of preciously stamped flowers using In Bloom: Eva's Favorite Flowers already cut out using In Bloom: Eva's Favorite Flowers Cutaways. The funny thing was they were all stamped in a lavender color as they were stamped some time ago to test the coordinating dies. Anyway the moral of the story is that keeping die cut images can come in handy regardless of the color they are originally stamped in. I used the colored pencils and added color using pinks, blues and reds for a palette I know my mom will enjoy (shh, this card is for my mom's upcoming birthday).

For the background I stamped a piece of pale aqua patterned paper by Basic Grey (so sad they are gone, but I certainly have a big enough stash of their paper to comfort me) using Hero Arts's Confetti Bold Prints cling stamp in an aqua ink...oh it was so lovely to incorporate another stamp company's stamps with w&w stamps and I do have a love of Hero Arts background stamps among other things. I added a little detail to some of the circles using blue colored pencils. This is very simple way to add some interest and to customize a background.

In the right corner I stamped the leaves in navy from Framed with Evelin T Designs and then colored them in. I also stamped the frame from the same stamp set in navy again (I adore navy and it is the perfect neutral for this card) on white cardstock, die cut it out using the coordinating cutaways and colored that in as well along with stamping the sentiment from A Tree for All Seasons.

I then arranged the flowers around the leaves and added the frame using foam dimensional adhesive. Last I added some sparkly sequins because well it needed a little shimmer and shine.

w&w 3rd Birthday Bash | Special Guest Star Jessica Frost-Ballas

birthdaybashspecialgueststar-jessica

Today's special guest star is a very talented, sweet and delightful designer who dazzled us with her work as our November Leading Lady.  I of course mean our friend, Jessica Frost-Ballas!  Please CLICK HERE to see her past work on the w&w blog.  I am so thrilled to have her on the w&w blog once again to share in our birthday celebrations.

Now it's Jessica's turn to take over the w&w blog....

Good morning! Jess here from All the Sparkle and I am so excited to be a guest for Winnie & Walter's Birthday Bash! I decided to combine a few of the fun birthday challenges for my card! I'm playing along with Gayatri's Cute Critter challenge, Kate's Sequin challenge, and Vanessa's Ink Blending challenge! You would think that combining that many challenges would result in a pretty busy card but surprisingly it's very CAS! ;)

Sending Big Hugs by Jessica Frost-Ballas for Winnie and Walter

I apologize for the photos...It was tricky to take a photo with different sparkly components and I ended up having to take it outside which is why there are really dark shadows! I adore the Big Hugs with Evelin T Designs stamp set and thought it would be perfect for a shaker card! So I started by prepping a piece of heat-resistant acetate with my powder tool and then used my MISTI to stamp the elephant duo onto the acetate with versamark. I heat-embossed the elephants with silver sparkle embossing powder. Two hints when working with acetate: handle it as little as possible (especially in the winter or in dry climates) so you cut down on static electricity which will mess with your embossing powder and make sure your heat gun is really warmed up before you bring it to the acetate. You want the powder to melt instantly to reduce the likelihood of the acetate warping. Aren't those ellies adorable?! I love the interlocking trunks!

Next I used the coordinating dies to die-cut the elephants from a white cardstock panel. I also stamped the sentiment from Big Hugs with versamark and heat-embossed it with silver embossing powder. Then I blended spun sugar, milled lavender, and dusty concord distress ink onto a piece of watercolor paper to create a soft ombre wash behind the shaker. I adhered the acetate to the back of my die-cut panel and added a double layer of foam tape around my elephants and on the back of the white cardstock. I recently discovered these iridescent clear sequins that have a soft lavender and pink shimmer and thought they'd be perfect inside the shaker! I really overfilled the shaker because I wanted the elephants to be totally "made" of sequins! Finally I adhered the distress ink blended background to seal off the shaker and then added a few more sequins to the front of the card. I used the same iridescent sequins along with a couple metallic silver sequins!

Thanks so much to Shay and Winnie & Walter for inviting me to guest-design this month and here's to many, many more birthday bashes to come!! :)

w&w 3rd Birthday Bash | Special Guest Star Laura Bassen

birthdaybashspecialgueststar-laura

Today's special guest star creates such saturated, bold and vivacious projects that reflect her bright and sparkling personality.  I speak of Laura Bassen of course!  I don't think I am alone in always feeling happier after seeing any project Laura makes.  We've had the good fortune of having Laura on the w&w blog before and you can see her projects on the w&w blog HERE.

Now I gladly turn over the w&w blog to Laura....

Hi there! Laura here and today I have couple of projects to share. I combined lots of fun stamps & dies on each of these. Some are newer sets. Some are older, but they all work perfectly together!

Winnie & Walter-True & Big Hugs

My first card features the adorable Big Hugs with Evelin T Designs stamp set. When I saw that monkey snuggling up to the elephant, I just about died. I love it so much! I stamped the image with Memento Tuxedo black ink and colored it in with Copics.

Winnie & Walter-Big Hugs with Evelin T Designs

For the background, I embossed the Mini Scenery: Multifaceted stamp with clear embossing powder and blending in Distress inks in Mermaid Lagoon, Cracked Pistachio, Spiced Marmalade & Worn Lipstick. For the sentiment I used both The Big, The Bold & Friends stamp set & coordinating die.

Winnie & Walter-Big Hugs with Evelin T Designs

This next card features the awesome True stamp set. I love these gorgeous multi-faceted circles. I embossed each circle in clear and blended distress inks for the color. I used two sizes of circle dies for this. One smaller circle die was used to create a mask to keep my ink blending perfectly inside each circle and the larger circle die was used to create windows to frame the images.

Winnie & Walter-True

For the sentiment I used The Big, The Bold & Friends stamp set & coordinating dies again. I blended distress inks in Abandoned Coral & Spiced Marmalade on the "smiles" cutaway.

Winnie & Walter-True

Both of these cards are perfect for the Vanessa's Ink Blending challenge. My first one also fits into the Cute Critters Challenge with Gayatri. Did you see the prize for the challenges? There's a $75.00 gift card (gift code) to the w&w shop!! That's awesomesauce! Hope you'll join in the fun! Thanks so much to Winnie & Walter for having me and thank you for stopping by!
