Our first such special guest star is Yana Smakula.  

I had the privilege of meeting this lovely and talented lady at CHA in 2015 and again this past January.  She's truly beautiful inside and out!

Yana is here today joining the awesome Create Your Own Background Challenge with Gayatri to help celebrate Winnie & Walter's 2nd Birthday! I love to make you own backgrounds so when Shay asked me to pick a challenge I wanted to participate in - I immediately knew I wanted to join this one.

Creating a custom background is always fun! Today I used Winnie & Walter's beautiful Scenery: Persuasion Script Creative Screenings and several colors of distress inks. I went with yellows, blues and purples and ended up having this fun and vibrant background for my card. I also used the You've Got Love Mail stamp set to create my sentiment - I just love the little bow in this set and all the other small images.

w&w Belated 2nd Birthday Bash | Image Inspiration with Taheerah

Hi everyone! Taheerah here with my contribution to Winnie & Walter's Belated Birthday Bash celebrations! Hasn't everything been fantastic so far?! So much amazing inspiration and the chance to win awesome prizes too!

My challenge in an Inspiration Image Challenge. I used to do these for my own challenge (Cure For The Monday Blues) on my blog, so I took this as an opportunity to dust off my those boots and take that as a cue for my image choice:

Fun right?! There are so many great trends in this image: rose gold, geometrics, florals, greys, and much more!

I created two cards for my takes on the inspiration - but there are really so many different ways you could go!

Here's card number 1:

Love how quickly this came together, thanks to some awesome stamps and supplies!

The base was spritzed with mist, using one of the new Creative Screenings coming in the February release - shhh! *wink*

I stamped one of the flowers from In Bloom: Anna's Flora and the leaves/stem from In Bloom: Addie's Garden before lightly watercolouring them. My vase is the diamond from My Precious, with the point cut off!

My sentiment came from  Happiest of Holidays with Evelin T Designs, heat embossed on black cardstock to finish!

For card number 2, I went in a completely different direction!

*swoon* So in love with this!! I think I'll display it in my home as a piece of art!

I started with a piece of cardstock and used a mixture of Distress Paints to create my abstract 'canvas'. I added some acrylic medium structure gel to the paints to give them some body and texture, and it worked fantastically!

I took my cue from the painting hung on the wall, but when I finished my panel I fought my OCD to decide it worked better 'upside down' for my card, lol! I adhered it to my card base then added my sentiments, again a sneak peek from one of the February Release items. You will love this release by the way!

w&w Belated 2nd Birthday Bash | Rainbow Challenge with Vanessa

Hello sweet Winnie & Walter friends! Vanessa here with a fun challenge! I don't know about you, but I love rainbows and they make me happy everytime I see one. So a bright, colorful card surely puts a smile onto my face, too! My challenge for you is as simple as that:

RAINBOW

Create any kind of rainbow on your projects. Use inks, cardstock, watercolors, stamping, embellishments - whatever makes you happy! I made two samples for you and would love to see your take on my rainbow challenge :)

For the first card, I played with Distress Inks. I had so much fun creating this:

I stamped the gems from the My Precious set with various Distress Inks onto a panel of watercolor paper. Then I used a water tank brush and painted over the gems to pull the color into these rays. After everything was dried, I stamped the sentiment. Now I adhered the panel to a Kraft card base and finished the card off with matching sequins.

For the second card, I used solid stamps to create a rainbow:

Using the large solid circle from Scenery: BIGGER Bang Confetti, I stamped a row onto a piece of white cardstock, using rainbow colored dye inks. Then I trimmed a strip from that row of circles to fit my card. I trimmed a panel of white cardstock, stamped "sending" from The Big, the Bold and Friends and adhered the panel to a black card base. Now I adhered my rainbow strip and added matching sequins. Finally, I die-cut my large word using The Big, the Bold and Friends Cutaways from black cardstock and adhered it to the card.

w&w Belated 2nd Birthday Bash | Inlaid Die Cutting Challenge with Mayuri

Hey everyone, Mayuri here!

Thanks for stopping by on what I can only describe as the beginning of a very exciting month of celebrations for Winnie & Walter's second birthday! Woohoo! And, it all kicks off with a different birthday challenge set by each member of the DT.

The theme for my challenge is Inlaid Die-Cutting, and I've 'stretched' the use of one of my favourite Winnie and Walter dies to create this card:

I began by creating a colourful background by misting a couple of Dylusions Ink sprays, blending from an orange to a bright pink and setting aside to dry. I then used the Big Bang Confetti Cutaways to die-cut a seamless pattern out of white cardstock.

I applied a full sheet of adhesive onto a scrap piece of paper, and then adhered the white, die-cut panel on top, leaving the exposed areas of adhesive for the next step.

I used the same cutaways to die-cut the same shapes out of my coloured panel, being sure to die-cut in the same place as the white cardstock - this meant I could retain the look of the orange blending into the bright pink.

I inlaid all the coordinating pieces back into the white cardstock panel to create an abstract background pattern. I die-cut this piece down to the same size as my card front and adhered it straight down.

I die-cut a banner piece out of some vellum using the banner die from The Big, the Bold and Extras Cutaways and used glue dots to adhered it to the card front. I then heat embossed a sentiment in white from This Awesome House onto a piece of black cardstock, trimmed it down and foam mounted to the vellum.

w&w Belated 2nd Birthday Bash | Floral Challenge with Lydia

Hello there all you lovely Winnie & Walter fans! How excited am I to be part of Winnie & Walter's (beleated) 2nd birthday?!?!? Well... very! I hope you are enjoying the celebrations! But with lots of challenges, prizes and guest stars it would be hard not to, right?!?!

 

When we were asked to come up with a challenge I wanted to concentrate on something I love .... and something you guys would love too... so I chose 'Florals'. With all of the gorgeously fabulous 'In Bloom' sets this is a challenge not to be missed. I have made up a card for a little inspiration.... if you need it ;)

 

For my card I stamped flowers and foliage from 'In Bloom: Anna's Flora' and 'In Bloom: Addie's Garden' in a very light ink and then coloured them using coloured pencils. I did it this way to create a no-line effect for the images. I love that all of the Winnie & Walter floral sets are all the same style and size so that all of the sets mix and match so well together. The sentiment I partially stamped over my coloured images is from Happiest Of Holidays with Evelin T Designs, I have to say even though this was part of the holiday release it is a great set for all of the year through! I really hope you play along with my 'Floral' challenge and I can't wait to see what you come up with!

w&w Belated 2nd Birthday Bash | Over the Edge Challenge with Kelly

Hi Folks! Here's a challenge you can participate in with practically any supplies you have. For this challenge, please have one or more of your main elements bleeding off an edge of your card. 

One reason to bleed an image off the edge of your card is to emphasize height. For example, this bird is sitting so high up in her tree that her head doesn't even fit on the card. Do you think this card would have a completely different feel if the circle were in the lower right quadrant of the card?

(note the white spotlight is also bleeding off the edge of the card.)

  

Another reason to bleed an image off the edge of your card is to create drama. We could feature the faceted heart right in the middle of the card, but then your eye wouldn't have to work at all to determine what the shape is. By bleeding the heart off the right edge, your eye rests on the image a little longer to try and figure it out.

The edge also acts as a good anchor to keep your elements from floating around in the middle of your card. In this example, the "kindness" sentiment, and the black banner both bleed off the right edge, serving to ground them both.

w&w Belated 2nd Birthday Bash | Gold + Watercolor Challenge with Heather H

Good morning! Heather here stopping by to share my Challenge for the Winnie and Walter Birthday Bash! I was trying to decide between Watercolor or Gold - and finally decided, why choose? How about I just do both? Here is my card to inspire you (also giving you a peek at some fun new Winnie and Walter product coming later this month! Shhhh...):

I used watercolors to create an ombre background in pink, then added some white and gold splatters to this (my first touch of gold!).

I used a fabulous new heart die - die cut solid in vellum, then die cut again in the faceted design with glitter gold cardstock (second bit of gold!). I heat embossed my sentiment - again from another soon to be released set! - on black cardstock, and used some foam adhesive to attach it over the top. Here is a closer look:

I hope you'll play along in this challenge! There are so many wonderful ways to use the theme - you could heat emboss something in gold, then watercolor it in; you could add a sprinkling of gold sequins or glitter over a watercolor creation; the possibilities are endless!

w&w Belated 2nd Birthday Bash | Create Your Own Background with Gayatri

Hello everyone, Welcome back to Winnie & Walter’s birthday celebration challenges. How is crafting for the challenges going for you? Are you getting inspired and having fun? Yeah!

I have another challenge for you. Creating the background for my cards is one of my favourite thing to do. I enjoy the process of using stamps and various technique to create a unique background for each of my card. The background also becomes the highlight of the card and it is a great way to stretch your stamp sets. So I have a card to share with you, where I have made a unique background using masking and sponging technique.

To make this background, I have used images from Winnie & Walter’s In Bloom: Anna’s Flora stamp set. I stamped the flowers and leaves randomly on white card panel. Then masked all of them using masks made from stamping all the images on masking paper. Then sponged three different shades of distress inks – Salty Ocean, Mermaid Lagoon and Blueprint Sketch. This gives a beautiful ombre effect which adds interest to the background rather than one solid colour. It’s like magic when I removed the masks. Voila! The white stamped images pop right at you against the blue ombre background. How cool is that?

I adhered this panel to a blue card base. I want to keep the background as the highlight of my card, So I kept my sentiment simple. I die cut three In a Word: Hello Cutaway using black cardstock. Stacked and glued them for dimension. Brushed the hello with Clear Wink of Stella shimmer pen and adhered on the bottom of the card front. Finally embellished with Pretty Pink Posh’s Sparkly Clear sequins.

w&w Belated 2nd Birthday Bash | Color Challenge with Heather P

Hello! As part of Winnie & Walter's 2nd birthday celebration, I'm so excited to be hosting a challenge today over on the W&W blog.  We have been bogged down with snow and its aftermath (30" last weekend), and I am so over it. Lol! BRING ON SPRING! My challenge is to create a card incorporating coral, lime/chartreuse and aqua/light turquoise.  

To create my card, I started by first stamping some of the flowers and leaves from In Bloom: Addie's Garden and In Bloom: Anna's Flora with Versafine ink, then heat embossing with white embossing powder.  I then colored the images with my Zig Clean Color watercolor markers, and set the panel aside to dry.

While I was waiting for the panel to dry, I used the In a Word: Hi Cutaway on white and coral CS.  I adhered three white Hi die cuts together to create a thicker base layer, then topped them offset with the coral die cut.  Once the main panel was dry, I cut a strip of green CS and adhered it to the bottom of the panel.  I then adhered the watercolor panel to a white card base using foam tape, and finished up by attaching the large die cut to the card front.

w&w Belated 2nd Birthday Bash | Two Challenge with Shay

Hello fellow party goers!  It's Shay here.  I am so excited to bring you my challenge.  To commemorate our 2nd birthday I am following up on my One Challenge from last year.  This year it is the Two Challenge!

Make a new project using the number 2 or two, two colors, two patterns, two layers, two embellishments, two photos, two words or two stamp sets (and so on)...really anyway to incorporate two into your project!  You can focus on a single option or combine the options (for instance a two layer card using two colors + two embellishments).

Card No. 1

I drew in and then painted in the 2 using Tim Holtz Distress Ink in watered down picked raspberry and outlining it in hickory smoke.  From there I used the circles and the two largest outline circles from Scenery: BIGGER Bang Confetti to create a background using Simon Says Stamp white ink, a pale pink ink and second generation picked raspberry solid circles and the outline in Tim Holtz Distress Ink in hickory smoke.  I stamped the sentiment from The Party in black Versafine ink.  I added sequins in pink and iridescent.  With dimensional foam adhesive I attached the panel to a piece of patterned paper from the Shine collection by Maggie Holmes/Crate Paper. It was all attached to an A2 card base using foam adhesive.

How 2 is used: that is 2 colors: pink + grey/black (white is a freebie) + 2 colors of  sequins + 2 stamp sets + a huge "2".

Card No. 2 (and 3)

I went a different direction here: 2 cards.

I began with a single panel of 4.25 x 5.5 white cardstock.  I stamped a plaid pattern using Scenery: Stripes and Tim Holtz Distress Ink in peacock feathers, twisted citron, mowed lawn, blueprint sketch and hickory smoke.  Remember to ink up with Versamark first so the Distress Ink sticks to it.

Then I cut the panel in half lengthwise.  From there I was able to create 2 cards.  I added a border of navy cardstock under the plaid before attaching the navy and plaid to the A2 card base and stamped the sentiment from A Tree for All Seasons on 2 white A2 card bases one in twisted citron and one in peacock feathers.  I accented each with enamel dots.

How 2 is used: that is 2 cards from a stamped pattern + 2 stamp sets.

My challenge is "anything but a card".

I know everyone will rock this.

I have started with a tag .....I had much grander plans but I'm in the middle of moving house.

Some other examples you could make tags, pocket pages, art journals, gift wrapping and 3D items anything so long as its not a card. 

On my tag you also get a little sneak peak at a new item from the next release ;)

I have used the Essentials: Katharine Cutaways with black card and the new dies with white card. 

I wanted some bling so used my favourite turquoise glitter card with the In a Word: Happy Cutaway

I added the stamped birthday and finished with some glitter enamel dots and the black and white ribbon.
