Spotlight On...Shona Chambers!

spotlight-Shona-Chambers

We are proud to bring you our next Spotlight On...Shona Chambers!  Shona's work is well worth noticing and we certainly have!  She has a very clean, fresh, graphic aesthetic while experimenting with the possibilities of stamps and dies like she does in this amazing card HERE.

Wait until you see the awesome projects she's made today...you will see Shona shine!

>>>ABOUT SHONA<<<

Hi everybody! My name is Shona and I'm writing to you from the small town of Blenheim, New Zealand. I came across paper crafting two years ago at a local craft fair, where I discovered washi tape. The woman selling it gave me her details and her's was the very first blog I had ever looked at. From there I stumbled across Kristina Werner. After watching a few of her card making videos, I was hooked. I decided to start my own blog and I haven't looked back!! I've become addicted to entering challenges, have been invited to join some amazing challenge design teams and most importantly, made so many wonderful friends from around the world. On a side note, I'm addicted to Peanut M&M's, have been married for 12yrs, have two children (Phoebe 10yrs and Max 8yrs) and love horror movies, which I quite often watch with my Mum.

I have been counting down to this day for months! I discovered Winnie and Walter products last year and fell in love straight away. I enter all of their challenges and use their stamps and dies a lot. They are so supportive of all paper crafters and I feel very honoured that they asked me to be part of their 'Spotlight' series.

I worked really hard on my cards as I really want to 'knock Shay and Julie's socks off' with my designs. So much so, they ask me immediately to be a part of their design team (oops, dreaming......). I hope you enjoy my cards as much as I enjoyed making them. And thank you so much Shay and Julie for making my dream come true!!

>>>SHONA'S PROJECTS<<<

The theme for August is 'Friendship', which is something I think goes hand and hand with card making. To sending a card to a friend or getting together with a group and crafting away. Unfortunately I don't have anyone to craft with here, so I thought of you all as I made these.

One of my favourite Winnie and Walter dies is the 'Cover Model: Multifaceted Cutaway'. I've used it with all my cards today.

For this card I used it to die cut white CS. I cut a panel of white CS the same size as the card front and die-cut the 'hi' (In a Word: Hi Cutaway). I attached the 'Multifaceted' die-cut behind the 'hi' panel. Distress Ink 'Peacock Feathers' was used on the card front and the 'hi' panel was popped over it using lots of foam tape. I stamped the sentiment (from 'The Big, the Bold and Friends') onto a small banner and put on foam tape. I added a clear sequin from Pretty Pink Posh and turquoise sequin from Avery Elle.

For my second card, I used Distress Inks to paint water colour stripes on to water-colour paper. Once dry, I used the 'Multifaceted' die but before I removed it from the die itself, I pressed over the paper a piece of Glad 'Press n Seal'. I've heard that it was invented by Jennifer McGuire's husband. What a genius!!

Once it was firmly pressed down, I gently removed the die-plate and all of the pieces were stuck to the 'Press n Seal'. I then very carefully removed the die piece, leaving all the triangles stuck to the sheet. Dots of glue were added to the back of each triangle and I pressed them onto a piece of white CS and removed the sheet. Voila!!! It worked perfectly!!!!

I trimmed it to fit a card front and adhered. I die-cut the 'friend' die (In a Word; Friend Cutaway) from white CS three times and glued them all together and stuck to the card. I also stamped and heat embossed in white the sentiment (from 'The Big, the Bold and Friends') on to a strip of black CS and adhered to the card. Finished off with a sprinkling of sequins from Pretty Pink Posh.

My third card was a little more tricky. I used the 'Multifaceted' die four times on white CS. I held two together with washi and die-cut a circle (from Couture Creations) from them, including a hole in the middle. This was repeated with the other two. All four of the circle pieces were glued together. I added some Distress Ink in Picked Raspberry to the card front and adhered the circle.

I stamped the 'Mini Scenery: Multifaceted' stamp on water-colour paper and heat embossed in white. I water-coloured it using Distress Inks and then die-cut the 'hello' (In a Word: Hello Cutaway). This was popped up on foam tape over the circle and a few sequins from Pretty Pink Posh were added.

I wanted lots of colour on my fourth card. I used Distress Inks to water colour randomly on a piece of water-colour paper. This was attached to the card front. I used the 'Multifaceted' die on some black CS and adhered to the card. I used Glossy Accents along all areas of the die triangles, except for the outer frame. Once it was dry, I die-cut the 'hello' (In a Word: Hello Cutaway) from two pieces of white CS and one of gold CS and glued all together. This was stuck to the card front.

Last but not least, you knew I had to sneak a shaker card in here somewhere.....This was one of the most fiddly shaker cards I've ever attempted (and would have filled the swear jar three times over if the kids had heard me....) but it was so worth it!!

I die-cut the 'Multifaceted' die four times from white CS, stuck three of them together, added a piece of acetate and the fourth one on top. With it upside down I added flat sequin stars in gold and silver to each triangle space. After putting dots of glue all over the back of the die, I pressed down the card front and gently lifted it up. I stamped and heat embossed in gold the sentiment (from 'The Big, the Bold and Friends'), fussy cut and popped up on foam tape. So much faceted sparkle!!!

Whew! If you've made it to the end, well done. You will need a big drink and a lie down after all this creativity. Thank goodness you have a day or two till I'm back with 'Part Two' of my Spotlight post. I hope I've done Shay and Julie proud and have given you some new ideas for these products. I really hope you can come back in a few days for 'Part Two'!!!

Take care

Shona
