Christmas Tree with Keren

IMG_7301
Hi there! I'm really happy to be joining you today with a...don't run away yet...Christmas card from a non-Christmas set! I really love the Mini Scenery: Do You See What I See
w_w_ms-doyouseewhatisee_3x4stamp_webprv_large
To start off , colour and cut out the cubes using green markers. Arrange them into a triangular tree shape. Cut out a rectangle and colour it brown.
IMG_7289
Tie 5 pieces of green thread together. Press a transfer sheet onto the arrangement and flip it over. Place the threads over the backs of the cubes in an evenly spaced way. Keep the threads taut by pressing them onto the transfer sheet.
IMG_7290
Now secure all the threads by putting foam pads over the top. Try and secure as many thread points using the pads.
IMG_7291
Now peel all the backs of the foam pads off, flip it over and press onto your card blank. Carefully peel back the sheet and then add the details.
IMG_7292
I stamped the star from Comfort & Joy and then added some sequins and stars from the Winnie's Sparkly Shaker Selection
IMG_7302
I also added some sparkle using a Wink of Stella brush marker but that never seems to show properly in photos. I tried adding in a sentiment but it somehow didn't look quite right. I'm not sure it needs it though, it's obvious it's to do with Christmas!
I hope this has given you a little inspiration in using a set differently. You could of course create it as a normal tree and add some little flowers from Winnie & Walter floral sets. Thanks for joining me and hope to see you soon
Keren xx

September Leading Lady Carson Riutta | Take Four

Carson_Riutta_september2016

As September wanes we sadly bid ado to our sensational September Leading Lady Carson Riutta.  The last four weeks with Carson have been bursting with color, vibrancy and excellent design.  Carson's abilities for eye-catching, inspiring and astounding projects along with her clear instructions are exceptional.  I am so grateful for Carson sharing her amazing talents and skills with us this month!

If you missed her smashing debut you must see it...CLICK HERE or her sensationally brilliantly bold second performance CLICK HERE or her triumphant third performance with a trio of terrific cards CLICK HERE!

Lucky for us all we have her final command performance today.

Today's post is so bittersweet for me.  I'm excited to share my last project  as your Leading Lady for the month, but I'm also a little sad to be saying goodbye to all my new card making friends.  Your comments have been so lovely and I've really enjoyed spending time with you all, here on the blog.  I just hope that if you've enjoyed my posts you'll head over to my Instagram, pineandplum and follow me there so that we can keep in touch over our shared love of papercrafts.
Winnie and Walter September Leading Lady Take 4 by Carson Riutta Watercolor Backgrounds
For my last project, I went a little crazy and made quite a few cards and tags.  I started with yet another watercolor technique using my beloved Distress Stains.  I did grab a glass of water this time and spent a good half hour laying down some vibrant and punchy colors onto watercolor card stock.  For each of the papers you see above, I used three colors of stain and simply layered them willy nilly onto the paper until I was happy with the outcome.  When I was finished with them all, I laid them out over my work space and began flicking water on them.  The water pulls up some of the color and you get that ghosting of water droplets, that you can see in the photo above.  I think this final step adds so much interest and depth to the colors.  It really elevates the background from a sloppy watercolor to a very interesting little piece of art.

I then spent some serious time creating those beautiful little mosaic tags using the fabulous Multifaceted and Flawless Cutaways.  These die sets are a perfect example of a product that is so "stand alone" good that you can create for hours simply doing what is was intended for.  The mosaic shapes are so fun and have so much possibility that you don't have to think outside the box with these.  They are well designed and simply stunning.

The warm watercolor background looked so good with the gold paper that I decided to leave some of the gold shapes intact when creating my mosaic.  I love the way the different textures play off of one another, how the soft glow of the watercolor and the sharp glitter of the paper contrast so nicely.

I'm not gonna lie here, I did have to run to the craft store to pick up some suitable ribbon to finish this project off, but I'm so glad I did, because now I own that gorgeous gold ribbon and can make the most stunning little gifts with these golden tags!
Winnie and Walter September Leading Lady Take 4 by Carson Riutta Shine Card

There was one watercolor background that I ended up having a bit of a crush on and couldn't bring myself to die-cut.  I decided to create a card with it instead, using a simple glitter sentiment from The Big, The Bold and the Fun Cutaways along with some small embellishments.
Winnie and Walter September Leading Lady Take 4 by Carson Riutta Cool Cards

I repeated the whole process with the cool color backgrounds I had created, but this time I used different colored glitter papers to frame the tags and kept the mosaic pieces entirely cut from the watercolor backgrounds.
Winnie and Walter September Leading Lady Take 4 by Carson Riutta Shine Diamond Tag

I was so happy about that blue streak through this diamond, and the way the ghosted water droplets look like bokeh, that I almost squealed when this one came together.  I absolutely love a relatively easy technique that turns out quite stunning, it can make us all feel like artists!

As a finishing touch for the tags I glued a few matching sequins down to give them a bit more sparkle and then tied them with matching satin ribbons.  One ribbon is nice, but in my mind, two or more is always better!

And finally I turned my last mosaic diamond into another card.  This time I played around with some Glossy Accents to give the diamond some literal shine and popped it off the card front from some extra dramatic flair.

Thank you so much for all your time and attention this past month.  I've had such a wonderful time playing with the Winnie & Walter products and reading all your lovely comments.  Don't forget to head over to my blog and leave a comment to enter our end of the month drawing for a $30 Winnie & Walter gift card.

Rerun No 14 | Comfort and Prayers with Kelly

Hello, Kelly here with a sympathy card today. Unfortunately, we lost my dear Aunt Joyce, who was always the light of a party, and a perfect hostess. She worked as a model in downtown Chicago in the 1950's before she got married, and told us stories of all the fancy social parties she attended. We will all miss her immensely.

Whenever I'm stuck for ideas for sympathy cards, I usually turn to nature. Ironically, or maybe because of this, inanimate living things generally seem to be comforting. This card uses the woodgrain stamp from Scenery: Into the Woods as both a tree, and a border element to ground the sentiment and focal point. I ran a light watercolor over the wood grain.

The single leaf is symbolically and literally falling to the ground. But, even in death it's still beautiful. Like Aunt Joyce : )

Since it's the focal point, and message, of the card, I want to make sure the leaf is extra special. After smooshing ink onto the paper (spritzed the ink with water first), I crumpled the paper to give it the texture of a fall leaf. The nice thing is that after it dries it retains the crumpled texture.

The leaf is from this month's spotlight set, In Bloom: Renee's Leaves. [As a side note, there is still plenty of time for you to enter this challenge. You just need to make a card with this set, or with inspiration from a card shown in the challenge post. I hope you can play along with us!]
The sentiment is from The Big, the Bold and Comfort. Really love how you can add a lot of words to your sentiment with this set. So many different choices. Finally, the inside is lined with X and O patterned paper, to give them some extra love.

Thanks so much for looking!
-Kelly

VIDEO | Season's Greetings with Laura

Happy Monday, everyone! It's Laura here from makingcardsisfun.com and it's been so long since I did a blog post for the Winnie & Walter blog.

In today's video, I'm making a clean and simple card inspired by Debby Hughes. I'm using the Comfort + Joy stamp set along with the Merry & Bright with Evelin T Designs set to stamp a wreath and do some two tone heat embossing.

Like I mentioned in the video, this design was inspired by the talented Debby Hughes. She makes such stunning cards and I especially love her watercolored creations and her super clean and simple cards. I decided to CASE her card for today's post with some Winnie & Walter goodies.

091916-laura-sterckx-full-card

First, I used a circle die to trace the shape of my wreath. Next, I started stamping some of the images from the Comfort + Joy stamp set. One thing to keep in mind is to erase the pencil line before stamping. You won't be able to erase the pencil mark after stamping on top of it with the ink. I mixed and matched some soft, pastel colors for this wreath.

091916-laura-sterckx-closeup

After finishing my little wreath, I decided to heat emboss a sentiment fromthe Merry & Bright with Evelin T Designs set. Since I couldn't really choose between two different embossing powders, I thought it'd be fun to combine these two colors together. I simply sprinkled on the Mermaid embossing powder on first, then removed some of it with a brush and finally I sprinkled the gold embossing powder on top. I love that effect! To finish off my card, I adhere some clear sequins here and there.

That's it for now. A big shout out to Debby Hughes for inspiring me. :) Thanks so much for reading today's blog post. Happy stamping!
