In Focus with Gayatri Murali No. 4 | Style #1

Hi Everyone! Cannot believe we are in August already! Six months of the year is already behind us. Before we know it will be Christmas huh! I wish time will slow down a bit to take time to enjoy.

New month means new in focus tutorial. Yay! Are you ready for another tutorial?

Using border cutaways

This month I am focusing on using the tiny border cutaways that come in Essentials: Audrey Cutaways set. I will be sharing two simple yet creative ways to use these dies.

In this tutorial, I am sharing a card where I have repeatedly die cut the tiny hearts border die from Essentials: Audrey cutaways.

Here is the finished card

Here is a collage of photos showing how the card is made.

Make you own cover model die tutorial

The Essentials: Audrey Cutaways is a verstile die set to have. The set has so many dies both large and small. It is one of my favourite set. In the set there are couple of border dies. One with tiny hearts and other with xoxoxo. To be honest, I haven’t used these border dies until now. I wasn’t sure how to use them other than using them as borders. So, I decided to tackle these dies in a simple yet creative way.

First thing that came to my mind was making a cover model plate out of it by repeatedly die cutting the tiny hearts border die. I started off my card by doing that exactly. I have astigmatism and I can never ever get anything straight I tell ya! It is frustrating and this is what happened when I die cut an entire card panel using the tiny hearts border die. There were couple which went crooked. In future, I will take time to draw lines with pencil for guidance and get it straight.

I didn’t want to start over again nor waste this die cut panel. So I trimmed it down to a smaller size. Then I coloured washed Cracked Pistachio, Mermaid Lagoon and Salty Ocean distress inks on to a watercolour paper. Once dry, I trimmed the panel to 4”x 5.25” in size. I glued the smaller die cut panel to the centre of this watercolour panel by adding glue to the centre of the die cut. I wanted the edges to be raised. This will give dimension to the card. I also die cut the three heart shapes from Essentials: Audrey cutaway and “love” from The Big, the Bold and Happy Cutaways using gold glitter foam. The glitter foam gives dimension without having to stack and glue die cuts. I adhered the gold glitter die cuts on the centre of the die cut panel. Then embellished with enamel dots, rhinestones and iridescent sequins from Pretty Pink Posh. This panel is adhered to a grey card base.

Here is a closeup shot of the card.

This is freestyle style of card. I have kept it simple. You can use a different sentiment or colour wash to make it your own. You can stitch between the hearts die cut to add texture. If you die cut the border die nice and straight, then use them as cover panel die covering the entire card front. Possibilities are endless. Also notice this card has no stamping whatsoever.

I will see you in a fortnight with another card using these border dies in yet a creative way.

Thanks for stopping by!
