You Complete Me with Kelly

Hi Folks! I really had a fun time making this card, and made quite a mess in my craft room after the stamps from FIVE different Winnie and Walter sets were put to use. Let's take a look!

I wanted to create the interior of a house, with wallpaper, baseboards and wood flooring, so that the photo of the doggie and kitty friends would feel right at home.

First I stamped and colored the wooden frame from Framed with Evelin T Designs. I did this a second time on copy paper so I could cut out the inside and use it as a mask. Now to start building the picture! These furry friends are from one of my favorite sets from the latest Winnie & Walter release, Welcome to the Family with Evelin T Designs. I colored them with Copics, and again made a mask, this time for the dog and cat, so I could start making the background. The house, clouds and tree from Our Town are just the right size! I get so much use out of that set.

The whole frame is hung on the wall with embroidery thread wrapped behind a brad. I intentionally didn't adhere the cardstock to the card, so as you open the card the photo moves a little bit.

This wonderful sentiment is from another new set, appropriately named Sentimental: Love. I love this set for many reasons 1) there are a ton of different sentiments (26 to be exact); 2) the mix of script and sans serif font is just right, 3) the small size lets you sneak in a sentiment when you've already used up all the real estate on your card for your scene; and 4) there are many uncommon phrases to keep your cards fresh. This is stamped on the baseboard I made by cutting three strips of paper and layering them in the proportions of real trim.

Finally, the floor uses the woodgrain pattern from Mini Scenery: Multigrain stamped on a diagonal to make it seem more like an actual room. I took the liberty of being trendy on this floor and stamped a charcoal grain on gray cardstock. Would love to have these floors in real life! I guess that's the benefit of stamping ... you can be trendy without having to restain your flooring every 5 years : )

Thanks so much for taking a look!
-Kelly

March Leading Lady Nicole Picadura | Take Two {Video}

Nicole_Picadura_march2017

Our March Leading Lady, Nicole Picadura is back for her sensational second performance!  If you missed her smashing debut you must see it...CLICK HERE.   Today she brings you another beautiful card with a video tutorial!

Ladies and gentlemen, Nicole....

Happy Saturday! Last week I shared a project using a die cut and embossing paste to create a unique focal point for cards. Today, we are going to take it super simple and create an embossed background with a die!

This is VERY simple, anyone can do it! This is also a great way to stretch your dies, giving them a new purpose other than just cutting papers. For this project, I used the Typecast: Cary Letters Cutaways for the background.

Any dies you have will be able to provide a subtle and soft dimension, allowing any focal points to pop easily! I kept the main portion of the card and the sentiment super simple using the Sketchy Thoughts Stamp Set & Cutaways. Since our background is super busy, keeping focal points simple and sweet will balance things out.

When stamping the sentiment, make sure to give it a good coverage since it is being stamped on top of the embossed surface. You can use MISTI to help with it. What kind of dies do you have that you can use this technique with? Perhaps background dies? or word dies you could use over and over for backgrounds? or shaped dies? Any would work well, so give it a try!

The Gossip Column with Taheerah Atchia No. 6 | Hot Gossips + Gossip Queen Announced

Welcome back, fellow Gossipers! We've been so thrilled with the response to the latest issue of The Gossip Column! We continue to be ever thankful all for your kind words, comments, shares, and your enthusiasm for this exciting feature on the w&w blog!

We were bowled over by the quality of each and every entry - you all certainly seemed to embrace the challenge, not just in terms of the use of different marbling looks, but in getting outside of your comfort zone and trying different techniques and designs and we were so impressed - bravo!!

Just to recap, for this challenge we wanted to see you use the look of marble in your creations, with extra credit for embracing a new-to-you technique and out-of-your-comfort-zone designs! We loved the results - you guys really brought your A Game to this one!!

We have to say that all the entries for this challenge raised the bar so high that it really made picking winners extra difficult! We thought long and hard, and finally arrived at our decision for this column's Hot Gossips (runner-ups) and Gossip Queen (winner)!!

Drumroll please...

We actually lost track of the number of projects Maryam created across the challenge - but from her total of 9 entries this particular submission left us really impressed. Her gift wrapping in places looks like real marble, and she achieved that with gouache and the results are incredible! She also embraced the challenge in every which way possible - stretching herself outside of her comfort zone, trying new techniques, stretching her supplies, trying different styles... every single one exhibited a budding talent in the making! Maryam without a doubt this entry is Hot Gossip!!

Lisa's Creative Niche used nail polish for her marbling technique, and her results were just stunning! The bold and bright colours created such a striking result, and yet her composition leaves her card still feeling light and airy too - no mean feat! Lisa this eye candy rightfully makes you Hot Gossip!!

And that brings us to our marble-ous (sorry, we just had to!) Gossip Queen...

Ashwini.... this girl always impresses and amazes with her entries - but the final of her three creations for this challenge just left us dumbfounded! Her bold, almost Pop Art look is so striking and inventive! She took her cues from one of the inspiration images in the Column - but her final result is an artistic and technical masterpiece in its own right. Modern, clever, and perfectly executed! I couldn't help but name her Gossip Queen!!

Lisa and Maryam - you each win a $15 credit to the w&w store, and Ashwini you walk away with a $30 credit! Congratulations!! Please contact info{at}winniewalter{dot}com to claim your prizes!!

Please join us in congratulating these fantastic ladies and their amazing creations!! Everyone's entries were of such a high standard and you all deserve the plaudits too!! Please do take some time to browse the gallery to see everyone's work - you can find them at the bottom of the last The Gossip Column here.

For all you Gossipers who are keen to get the latest scoop, issue 7 of The Gossip Column will be hot off the press in a few weeks! We'll see you back here to get the exclusive on the latest gossip then!!

'Til then - keep on gossiping!

Springy Happy Birthday with Vanessa

Hello everybody! Vanessa here with some pretty spring flowers to brighten your day! I've been impatiently checking on the progress of the flower buds in my garden patches every day, but it'll still take a while for them to bloom, so I made my own spring bouquet on a card.

I've been wanting to try coloring on patterned paper, so I chose this subtle patterned Kraft colored paper and trimmed it slightly smaller than my white card base. Now I stamped the flowers and the leaves from In Bloom: Addie's Garden, always masking the previously stamped image before stamping the next. After I had colored the bouquet with Faber Castell Polychromos, I stamped and heat-embossed the sentiment from Welcome to the Family with Evelin T Designs and adhered the panel to my card base. Finally, I added sparkling clear sequins.

I hope you enjoyed today's card inspiration! Thank you so much for stopping by!

I feel truly honored to have Emily Leiphart back for a second post as our last 3rd Birthday Bash special guest star.  If you did not see her first post you really must (!)...CLICK HERE.

Now I turn you over to Emily....

I'm back on the Winnie & Walter blog for my second post as a Special Guest Star for their 3rd Birthday Bash celebrations! I'm so in love with the Typecast: Cary Letters Cutaways and I wanted to use them in a very different way from Friday's video post.

Today's card features the Typecast: Cary Letters Cutaways front and centre as the star. I used the stripes from Scenery: Stripes and three different ombre inks to create a background behind the die cut letters.

The scripted honey word is from Sentimental: Endearments and we love you is from Sentimental: Love. I left out the negative pieces from the letters since I wanted to stamp a word in the o and having completely open letters shows off the ombre stripes.

Don't forget, you have until 11:55 p.m. CST tonight to enter the birthday challenges to win a $75 gift certificate, a chance to be a special guest star and the grand prize giveaway!

Thanks so much to Winnie & Walter for having me as a 3rd Birthday Bash Special Guest Star! I always have so much fun creating with these amazing products!!

w&w 3rd Birthday Bash | Special Guest Star Nina-Marie Trapani {Video}

birthdaybashspecialgueststar-nina-marie

Today's special guest star is incredibly talented with an attention to detail along with being a bright, lovely person.  Nina-Marie Trapani was one of Leading Ladies last year and you can see her gorgeous projects on the w&w blog by clicking HERE.

Now it's Nina-Marie  turn to take over the w&w blog....

nina-marie_Winnie & Walter Birthday Bash_1

Hello crafty friends! I am back again today with a card I created using Winnie & Walter’s
Welcome to the Family with Evelin T Designs and Sketchy Thoughts stamp sets with Zig Clean Color markers.

nina-marie_Winnie & Walter Birthday Bash_2

This card is also part of Winnie and Walter’s 3rd Birthday Bash, which I am so very happy to be
posting this as a Special Guest for the celebration! As part of the month-long 3rd Birthday
celebration, there are lots of challenges that you can enter in (and have a chance at winning a
giveaway!). I’m taking inspiration from the Cute Critter Challenge with Gayatri. Critters are one
of my favorite things to include in a card, so I could not resist!

nina-marie_Winnie & Walter Birthday Bash_3

Watercolor is a technique I enjoy incorporating into many of my cards; because of that, I thought
I would do some Zig Clean Color watercoloring! I thought it might be helpful to see a limited
marker selection used, as I know not everyone has all of the Zig markers. We all love to add
dimension and shading to our coloring, so we naturally think we need all the colors to help us
achieve that. But did you know that you can create beautiful depth and shading with just a single
marker color? In the video below, I will show you how!

• Bunny: Cool Gray 1 #099, Tea Rose #220
• Giraffe: Mustard #067, Yellow #050, Tea Rose #220, Mid Brown #065
• Elephant: Light Gray #091, Tea Rose #220
• Cat: Beige #072, Flesh Color #071
