Cris_G_may2016

May is coming to a close which sadly means it is our last Saturday with our marvelous and magnificent May Leading Lady, Cris G.  I feel so fortunate Cris has been our Leading Lady this month gracing us with her ingenuity, awe-inspiring artistic skills and creativity!  It has been a magical May indeed.

If you missed her smashing debut you must see it...CLICK HERE or her sensational second performance of bright and bold watercolor wonders CLICK HERE or her triumphant third performance of en-wrap-turing  projects CLICK HERE.

Lucky for us all we have her final command performance today.

Hello crafty friends!

Today is my last performance as a Leading Lady (is it just me or this sound a bit melodramatic? :)). It has been a real pleasure sharing this time with you and reading all the wonderful and always encouraging comments, even when I didn’t feel so creative. I confess now that I was suffering from lack of mojo even before my first post... still do. Anyway, thank you so much for having me Shay! You know I truly admire your kindness, strength and perseverance!

For this last post I brought the most unique theme (ha ha): Flora! I can explain, the theme could be Flowers, but there is a tree and leaves... and no flowers, so I thought that Flora would cover everything.

First of all, my Brushos arrived... yabba dabba doo! They are really fun to play with, but I still have a lot to explore and control. For now I think that a mix of free powders on watercolour paper (and all over the desk), along with a little bit of discipline from a brush are the technique(s) that work best for me.

Before this first card I had two really bad attempts, but finally I’m pleased with this one. I started by stamping two hydrangeas from In Bloom: Addie’s Garden with a little masking, and then literally soak them in water, using a brush. After that I carefully dropped the powders, repeating the process a few times until I was happy with the intensity of color. Although powders spread beyond where we want them to be, you can blame all that spatter on me :). Then I cut the In a Word: Kisses Cutaway from the main piece and from craft foam. Stamped and white heat embossed the word sending from The Big, the Bold and Friends, adhere everything and spritz with a mix of Perfect Pearls and water.

Project two. I started with Scenery: the Leaf Effect Creative Screenings and Brushos. I saw a video on YouTube sharing some different techniques with watercolour powders and decided to try this one. I simply LOVE the effect of mixed colors on the leaves. The second step was white heat embossing the tree from Kindness with Evelin T Designs and sentiment from the Wishing You With Evelin T Designs on vellum. Stamped the little “sunshine” from In Bloom: Eva’s Favorite Flowers and fussy cut, then attached with a tiny metal clip to the vellum piece, embellishing with some sequins from Winnie’s Sparkly Shaker Selection. Easy card with a cool effect produced from applying Brushos through a stencil.

For my third and last card I decided to do something more classic with a vintage touch. I used a vintage like stamp for the sentiment, to match the overall design.

I started by stamping flowers and greeneries from In Bloom: Lola’s Bouquet with Joni AndayaIn Bloom: Addie’s Garden, and In Bloom: Hollie's Festive Florals with white pigment ink onto kraft cardstock. After this I colored the images using white watercolour, Inktense pencils (dry) and oil pastels. I was inspired by an image of a beautiful vintage wreath.

  5. Cris you've saved my favorite for last ... Lola's set has such a special place in my heart [my mom, and granddaughter] and I must admit, I've never seen them 'painted' so beautifully!

  12. Unbelievable, Cris! If these works of art are what you create when your mojo is lacking, I can't even begin to imagine what you create in the full throes of your muse! I would have sworn that your backgrounds were professionally printed pp and that hydrangea design - I gasped out loud when I saw it! Do keep forcing yourself to create and post, we need your wonderful talent and inspiration!! Hugs, Darnell

  13. These card are gorgeous Cris!! You've done the Brusho proud!! I learned from Laurel Beard to use the watercolor powders inside a shoebox so that the powder doesn't get all over my work surface. It makes a huge difference. Thanks so much for sharing! ~HUGS~
