February Leading Lady Emily Leiphart | Take One

It is one the best days of the week: Saturday! As it is the first Saturday of February that means is time for the debut of our fabulous February Leading Lady, Emily Leiphart!

When Emily was our Special Guest Star for our 1st Birthday Bash (check it out and also learn more about her!), she made quite an impression on us as not only a clever and gifted artist, but also being a stellar person. She's the perfect Leading Lady to have during our Belated 2nd Birthday Bash as
the Saturdays this February are sure to be joyful, inspiring and full of beauty!

Please welcome Emily onto the w&w stage!

Hi, everyone! It's Emily here and I'm so excited to be Winnie & Walter's Leading Lady this month!! Every Saturday, I'll be sharing projects with a weekly theme. Today's theme is stencilling and I'm sharing two cards, each one with a completely different stenciling technique, and two of my favourite ways to use stencils.

My first card uses Scenery: The Leaf Effect Creative Screenings stencil with embossing paste tinted with three shades of green distress inks. It's a great technique that allows me to customize the colour of the paste. In this case, I created greenery for the hanging birdhouse. The In a Word: Home Cutaway die was sponged using purple distress inks.

The birdhouse and bird, from Happiest of Holidays with Evelin T Designs and used here to show versatility in a non-holiday design, were coloured with Copic markers. I applied a generous coat of Wink of Stella on the bird. Since I was partially stamping sweet home on some of the embossing paste, I didn't want it to react and bleed so I used archival ink. I also used my MISTI stamping tool to make sure it lined up and, if it didn't stamp well the first time, stamp it again in the same spot.

My second card uses the Scenery: Madison Creative Screenings stencil with daubers and a rainbow of distress inks to create a bold background that allows simple flowers and leaves from In Bloom: Anna's Flora to shine without added colour. All I did was add some sparkling clear sequins for a bit of shine. The sentiment was created with a combination of stamps and dies from The Big, the Bold and Friends and The Big, the Bold and Party Cutaways.

Here are the two cards shown side-by-side to show how stencils can be used in two very different ways. I love the option of creating a lot of texture versus keeping it flat.
