Let's get to the fun stuff now!

Julie

Wow – this week really has been A Week to Die For, hasn’t it???  The inspiration from our guests and DT Talent has been absolutely incredible.  I am joining in today, continuing with my love of shaker cards, and great big confetti balloons.  You can never have enough birthday cards.

I wanted to use a great big balloon for my focal image, and I created one with vellum and circle dies.  I cut out an extra section for the balloon tie, to keep it authentic *wink*.  I have been enjoying the trend of using tassels on balloons, so I created my own tassel using the Lulu Fringe Cutaway, cutting some crepe paper, separating out the fringe slightly, and winding it up with a little glue.  I tied some bakers twine around it to finish it off.  It’s a fun twist, right?

The clouds were created using the large scallop design from the Goldie Trim Cutaways and used both the trim and the paper it leaves behind to create a large puffy cloud shape.  This card should probably have a rainbow since the clouds have a delicate silver lining created by painting Wink of Stella on the trim and gluing it next to the rest of the cloud.  It is tough to see behind the balloon, but it is still noticeable, and is a fun feature on the cloud in front.  I added a birthday sentiment from the Bubble Talk stamp set and die cut it with one of the banner strips from Essentials: Katharine Cutaways from vellum colored pink with a Copic marker. Just a few sparkling clear sequins from Pretty Pink Posh for a sparkling finish.

Now let’s see what Shay has created with these two versatile die sets.

What is better than the big balloon shaker Julie made?  Not much! lol  It is a hard act to follow.

I decided to keep it simple today and concentrate on the Lulu Fringe Cutaway.  I wanted something that really showed off the dimension using plain cardstock you can get from this cutaway.

I cut the fringe 6 times from 6 inch long pieces of white cardstock I then scored each at 1" horizontally and folded them over in half.  I used Tim Holtz Distress Ink by Ranger in spun sugar, picked raspberry, dried marigold, ripe persimmon, squeezed lemonade, mustard seed, shabby shutters, mowed lawn, tumbled glass, salty ocean, shaded lilac and dusty concord with a water brush and colored each piece a different color using the 2 shades of the color.  I let them dry a bit and glued the halves together and then played with them to give them some shape before adhering them onto a panel of white cardstock.  I folded the edges over and glued them to the back.

I threaded a piece of gold thread (inspired by yesterday's card by Kelly) through In a Word: Cheers Cutaway cut from white cardstock.  I wrapped the gold thread around the back of the panel and adhered it with washi.  Then I adhered the fringe panel to a white card base with foam dimensional adhesive.
