Special Guest Star May Sukyong Park with Video

special-guest-star-may-sukyong-park

I am so excited about today's special guest star.  May Sukyong Park is a crafter I have followed for years and had the pleasure of watching grow into a phenomenal artist who is not only making stunning cards full of inspiring ideas and techniques, but also a published author of a cardmaking book (on my list of upcoming buys--it may be in Korean, but the pictures look gorgeous) and stamp designer for such awesome companies as Altenew and Neat and Tangled.

Not only is May unbelievably talented, she's incredibly warm, delightful and kind!  I have had the honor and privilege of meeting May in person and she greeted me like a long-lost friend both times.

May's just brilliant.  I know people familiar with May agree with me and those just discovering May are in for something truly wonderful.

>>>ABOUT MAY<<<

Hello! My name is May Sukyong Park

Here is a little bit about myself. Originally a South Korean girl, I moved to Southern California with my husband in 2009. I had not enjoyed any arts and crafts until I was first introduced to stamping in 2010. Then it became my biggest hobby where I found my passion and I’m so happy to be part of this paper crafting community with amazingly sweet, talented ladies. Crafty friends are the best, right? :)

When I’m not studying English or making cards, I’m either taking photos of my two adorable cats, working out at the gym, designing stamps, shopping at thrift stores or flea markets, playing tennis, or swimming in the sunshine.

I’m so honored to guest design for the Winnie&Walter blog today. I had so much fun playing with gorgeous stamps from Winnie&Walter. I first met Shay at the CHA craft show in 2015 and she is absolutely the sweetest.

Here is what I came up with:

I created a couple of watercolor cards using the beautiful stamps from Winnie&WalterIn Bloom: Lola's Bouquet and The Big, the Bold and Friends. I can't believe that I've made cards using watercoloring 7 times in a row for the last few weeks. I really hope you are not tired of seeing my watercolor cards. ;)

To create my floral frame card, I stamped the images along the border of my card front and colored them with Gansai Tambi watercolors. After that, I added some ink splatters and clear sequins to give an extra interest.

I’d love for you to watch my video tutorial as I shared lots of tips in the video. You can watch it here or in HD on YouTube. Hope you find it helpful.

How to Make a Floral Frame Card using Border Stamping and Watercoloring
  1. Stamp the images from In Bloom: Lola's Bouquet with VersaFine Onyx black ink on the Prima watercolor paper. (Make sure to use a waterproof ink.)
  2. Color the stamped images using Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolors.
  3. Add ink splatters using Perfect Pearl and black watercolor paint.
  4. Stamp the sentiments from The Big, the Bold and Friends with VersaFine Onyx black ink.
  5. Mount the watercolor panel on a A2 sized side folding card using foam sheet and double sided tape.
  6. Finish off the card with Sparkling Clear Sequins Mix from Pretty Pink Posh.

5 Watercoloring Tips
  1. Wet the area of watercolor paper first with clean water for the wet-on-wet technique.
  2. Bring in some color to the images from light to dark.
  3. Tap gently using a paper towel to remove some of the excess paint.
  4. Allow colors to dry between layers to prevent muddying. Drying can be sped up with a heat tool.
  5. Add more pigment to enhance the colors. Repeat this process : adding color, removing color, drying color, adding color....

My watercoloring looks so messy at some point, however I love the way it turned out. The important thing is that I had so much fun watercoloring! :)

That’s all I have for today! I hope you enjoyed seeing my cards and got some inspiration. Thanks so much for stopping by. Happy crafting!
