Julie

Are you ready for some The Big, the Bold and You goodies today?  Tell the truth!!  I know you have been waiting patiently impatiently all week for this!  LOL

Ok – no more waiting – here we go!

I have been a little jealous of all of the watercolor effects I am seeing all over the place, and thought that these two cards were perfect candidates for this treatment.  Instead of a painted watercolor look, I went for using the “wrinkle free distress” technique from Tim Holtz and also Heidi Swapp Shine sprays used with water for a more blended and watery look than just spraying on dry paper.  Color me happy!!!

The “congrats! you rock” background is a blend of squeezed lemonade, shabby shutters, mowed lawn, peacock feathers and salty ocean on a watercolor panel.  I stamped the entire sentiment (in parts) in Memories black ink.  I was unsure of the “you rock” portion and the exclamation, so I wanted to stamp them separately.  Then I grabbed my tried and true Scenery: Big Bang Confetti and used the clustered retro stars to create a trail from one corner to the other.  I actually masked off the section of the stamp that I wanted to use that filled the area just the way I wanted.  I only added one single retro star at the very bottom.  But, that is why I love the individual items in that set.  I can fill empty areas as needed.  I painted in the retro stars with some Lumiere paint that was hidden in my stash.  I just wanted some iridescent look, but not too much, and not glitter – I saved that for the left side of the card in the form of a pretty American Crafts aqua glitter tape. After placing the tape along the left side, I added the panel on foam tape.

Similarly, I created another wet watercolor look, this time spraying tons of water on my watercolor paper panel, and then spraying blush, primrose and amethyst Shine sprays.  As I dried them, the excess color dripped over onto my nonstick craft sheet and that allowed me to tap my dried panel in the color droplets a few times to get a varied look.  This time, I stamped the sentiment with Versamark ink and embossed white. Finally, I added various sequins, gems and pearls.  I have yet to master the sequin / gemstone embellishment technique of finding just the right spot to add these, but I think I’m getting better.  Is there a You Tube video for that?  LOL

Get ready to feast your eyes on more fabulousness below!!! Enjoy!

Seems that Julie and I got the same memo to watercolor with these sentiments. :-)  Just goes to show that The Big, the Bold and You works perfectly for watercoloring!  Julie's watercolor cards are really amazing!  Mine are extremely simple.

I first embossed the big words with Versamark and white embossing powder.  I used some CARAN d'ACHE water-soluable wax pastels my friend, Liz Allen, gave me a few years ago and scribbled on watercolor paper that I die cut with the smaller stitched frame of Mama Elephant's Femme Frames Creative Cuts and then used a wet brush to blend.  I then flicked gold and black velvet Heidi Swapp Color Shine.  I stamped the smaller sentiments with VersaFine in onyx black.  Then I added a misting of calico shine by Studio Calico's Mister Huey's Color Mists.  I distressed the edge with black soot Distress Ink.  I adhered the watercolor panel onto the scalloped die cut white layer (using the larger scallop frame from the same Mama Elephant Femme Frames Creative Cuts) with dimensional foam adhesive.  Then I adhered it all to a black card base.  That's it.  Easy peasy and with this stamp set you could make a slew of these fun watercolor cards for all sorts of occasions and you can customize the sentiments as well as the colors, pattern and embellishments as you want.  Win-win!
