August Leading Lady Ashwini Rao | Take Three

Our August Leading Lady, Ashwini Rao is back for her triumphant third performance!  If you missed her smashing debut you must see it...CLICK HERE or her sensational second performance which is a joyous celebration of color and pattern CLICK HERE.   Ashwini's versatility is really on showcase today where she used the same basic design and stamp set to create a trio of lovely cards with different effects!

Without further ado, Ashwini....
Ashwini_Rao_august2017

Hello and welcome to the take 3 of my role as Winnie & Walter Leading Lady for August. Since I've been using the products from the latest release these past two weeks, I thought of using an older stamp set this time. So, I used Winnie and Walter In Bloom: Addie's Garden for the flower arrangement, die-cut the frame using Essentials: Lana Cutaways for all three cards. Also, I am focusing making my cards monochrome while using a single stamp set, and the same layout. Even the arrangement of flowers is the same. I've made three cards using these points as the leads -

Winnie & Walter Leading Lady - Aug Week 2 - All Cards

Lets go through the cards one by one. For my first card, I went with greys and silver. For the background, I used a light grey cardbase, and stamped the images just around the edges using masks and a dark grey ink.

Winnie & Walter Leading Lady - Aug Week 2 - Card 2

For the panel in focus, I first heat embossed the images in clear embossing powder and then watercolored it using Gansai Tambi silver paint. A little paint was enough to get lots of shimmer and coverage, and the whole thing finished very quickly. Once it dried, I covered the image and added the splatters around the image using the same paint.

Winnie & Walter Leading Lady - Aug Week 2 -Card 2 Closeup

See that beautiful shimmer? So beautiful! I then foam mounted the panel and stamped the sentiment, from Sketchy Thoughts in black ink. For my second card, I went with color splash -

Winnie & Walter Leading Lady - Aug Week 2 - Card 3

For this card, I stamped each of the image separately, then fuzzy cut them. For the panel, I watercolored it a bright shade of green, then, once dry, die cut it, and finally I adhered the flower and leaf pieces on it. To give a liitttle bit of dimension, I curved the flowers' and leaves' edges.

Winnie & Walter Leading Lady - Aug Week 2 - Card 2 Closeup

For the card base, I picked a line stamp from the Scenery: Stripes stamp, and lying the stamp in a curvy fashion on my acrylic block, stamped it using black ink. After stamping this several times, I then changed to other curves and stamped it, covering the whole image thus. The sentiment comes from The Big, the Bold and You stamp set. For my final and most favorite card, I made a sketch of sorts -

Winnie & Walter Leading Lady - Aug Week 2 - Card 3

I used a paper which is meant for sketches, but any paper will do for this method. I first stamped my arrangement using a light grey ink, then used a normal pencil to sketch. I don't claim to be an expert in sketching, but trust me, these flowers are just perfect - super easy to make a sketch out of!

Winnie & Walter Leading Lady - Aug Week 2 - Card 3 Closeup

For the background, I used the Scenery: Madison Creative Screenings to emboss, then added some twine. I then mounted the sketched panel. The sentiment comes from The Big, The Bold and the Happy stamp set, which I stamped in a light grey ink, then wrote over it using the pencil (to make it look sketchy, of course! ;) ) and then die cut using the tag die from Essentials: Lana Cutaways. I then adhered this to the card too. Hope you liked these variations of the same design in these three cards! Leave a comment on my blog post for a chance to win the $30 gift certificate to the Winnie & Walter store. Winner will be announced at the end of this month.

Hugs with Lydia

Hello everyone and happy Friday! Lydia here with you today and I wanted how you can completely change the look of solid stamped images with a little doodling.

I took 3 of the solid flowers and a leaf image from In Bloom: Eva's Favorite Flowers and stamped an all over background onto my card blank. I used a very light pink and light yellow for the flowers and a grey for the leaves. Once I had stamped all over the front of the card blank I then took a black fine line pen and quickly doodled on the stamped images- I do find the quicker you go and the less you think about it the better the doodles look ;)

For the sentiment I took a black square of card and cut the word 'hugs' out of it using Typecast: Cary Letters Cutaways. I backed this onto some vellum before attaching to the patterned card base.

I hope you enjoyed today's card and give doodling a go yourself!

Hugs, Lydia x

One in a Melon with Kelly

Hi Folks! Today I'm sharing a fun card inspired by the most recent edition of The Gossip Column by Winnie & Walter's own Taheerah Atchia. Each month Taheerah puts her heart into researching the latest trends and then interprets them in a fun and inviting way for us all to enjoy. This month she turned the spotlight on fruit, and created a wonderfully watercolored watermelon card using Scenery: Spotty Creative Screening for the seeds. I fell in love with it and wanted to make one as well.

This version uses the Scenery: Spotty Creative Screening on red vellum for the seeds. I was able to find all the small words in The Big, the Bold and Baby set and piece them together. The large alpha stamps are from Typecast: Cary which is currently on sale!

Like the actual rind of a watermelon, I wanted the large letters to be several different shades of green. Not sure why, but in my head the green part of a watermelon slice is thick and the white part is thin, when in reality the proportions are reversed. So I just inked a thin margin of green along the bottom of the card. Just for fun I made another red vellum section for the inside of the card, and will plan to write my message on the very bottom of the card.

Taheerah loves to style the heck out of her photos, so I thought I'd put the leftover watermelon slices from my son's sleepover this weekend to use. Unfortunately, I had already taken all the seeds out since I was serving these to the kids, so they don't photograph as beautifully, but I suppose there's a charm in that too when you know the story behind them!

Thanks so much for looking today, and a big thank you to Taheerah for wowing us with her Gossip Column feature each month! Don't forget, there are two weeks remaining to make your own fruity concoction and enter this month's contest!

-Kelly

August Color Combo with Heather H. (Challenge)

Good morning! Heather here stopping by this morning to share a new Color Combo Challenge with you! Thanks again to everyone who has played along so far - make sure and look for winners and a few featured players at the bottom of this post!

And here is my color inspiration for this month:

This month's inspiration is bold and fun! I thought it was super unique and a fun challenge!

I used Mini Scenery: Bed of Roses for my background, heat embossed with clear powder, then blended two colors of distress ink over the top. I trimmed it down, matted it with a bit of white cardstock. I die cut In a Word: Shine Script Cutaway two times from white cardstock and layered it together for a thicker word embellishment. Added another little word sentiment heat embossed in white on a strip of black cardstock from Sentimental: Birthday. I also covered the word "shine" with Glossy Accents to make it pop even more! Used some navy cardstock, added some white paint splatters to a panel of it, matted with more white cardstock, then mounted on a navy cardbase. Mounted the front panel with foam adhesive for dimension.

Now - I have a few favorites from the last Color Challenge to feature! Every single project was lovely, but I thought I'd give a shout out to a few that especially caught my eye! This month had the MOST entries yet - I'm so happy you enjoyed this color combo! And it made my job even harder - I really wanted to keep going with my favorites...but did my best to narrow down to a few!

First up - LOVE this clever card by Maryam - she doodled the mermail tail herself, and used a Winnie and Walter stencil to add the texture! Swoon!

Then we have this lovely by Gloria Lee - love the soft watercolor ombre background - and I adore how the twine even matches the color combo!

LOVE how this card by Jenny Martin is a PERFECT use of the color combo and it's cool colors, and the bold pop of black. And the design is SOOO fun and happy - who could not love that adorable green bird?!?!?

This card by Marianne is Clean and Simple PERFECTION! LOVE the white space - and the stamp set she used is so perfect for the color combo!

And finally - this gorgeous leaf background from Greta H - the glittery hello is the perfect finishing touch!!!

August Leading Lady Ashwini Rao | Take Two

Our August Leading Lady, Ashwini Rao is back for her sensational second performance!  If you missed her smashing debut you must see it...CLICK HERE.   Today she brings on the birthday party--full of joyous celebration of color and pattern!

Ladies and gentlemen, Ashwini....
Ashwini_Rao_august2017
Hello and welcome to my second post as the Winnie & Walter Leading Lady for August!! The products from the latest release are so fine, I just couldn't stop making many many cards! And then I thought, how about making quick and easy cards. Not necessarily CAS, just quick and easy. And I came up with this bunch. I wasn't exactly timing anything, but I guesstimate that each card could be completed within half an hour, provided you have all the supplies ready. So lets begin!

Winnie & Walter Leading Lady - Aug Week 2 - All Cards

The main focus on these cards are the elements made using the Big Balloon Cutaways and the Happy Birthday to You stamp set.

02

For my first set of cards, I wanted to add some bling and shine. So, after stamping the birthday cake, I used silver foil on the mint cake (not sure why its looking gold in the image!) and silver glitter embossing on the pink one. Since I wanted this to be quick, I just used a 2-way glue pen for the adhering the foil, and embossing pen for the embossing. I then fuzzy cut them both. For the spotty background for the blue cake, I used Mini Scenery: Spotty, then a washi strip, and banners cut out using Essential: Lana Cutaways. For the pink cake, I created a background of scripts and stars, made using the sentiments from Sentimental: Birthday and stars from Happy Dance with Evelin T Designs.

Winnie & Walter Leading Lady - Aug Week 2 - Cards 3 & 4

For the second set of cards, I used the Big Balloon Cutaways with some pattern paper. Pattern paper is probably one of the easiest and quickest ways to add lots of fun and art to your card, without much work. For the card with the big balloons, I cut the pattern paper using the two biggest balloon dies attached together, then adhered them on a scrap piece of paper which I cut using only the biggest die. Adhering them to the card then was really easy. The sentiment for this card comes from In a Word: Birthday and In Bloom: Carolina's Florals with Angelica Suarez. For the other card, I adhered the pattern paper with some scrap card stock before die cutting. For the balloon strings, I used the leftover piece to cut a very thin strip, and adhered it to the card base directly. All the little sentiments come from Sentimental: Birthday, and are fuzzy cut (might have to spend a little time here ;)) I stamped the grey cardstock with the lines from Scenery: Stripes before adding the balloons and sentiments. I hope you enjoyed these quick and easy cards! Leave a comment on my blog post for a chance to win the $30 gift certificate to the Winnie & Walter store. Winner will be announced at the end of this month.
