Ladies and gentlemen, Maya....

I'm so happy for the warm welcome I got last week when I did my first post here in the Winnie & Walter blog. Now I'm back for my second post and I hope you will be inspired to create something. Today I have used book paper for my cards. I have an old book that got damaged in a move so pages was missing and I keep it close to use for mixed media projects and other crafty things. I love the texture the printed text gives to everything. For my projects today I used Gesso to cover the pages first to make sure the water would not damage the pages, and I also like it when just some of the structure of the text is visible under the color. And I adore the look of watercolor on top of Gesso, it gives it a whole new look compared to regular watercolor paper. It also behaves a bit differently so try it on some extra paper before doing it on your project to make sure you don't get any surprises.

For my first card I used black ink on book paper to stamp the birches in Scenery: Into the Woods. I am not lying when I say I squealed when I saw the result and took pictures to send to crafty friends. I loved the uneven stamping on the book print. I had the stamped image laying out for a week wondering what to do with it until I decided to keep it simple and just add a greeting from Happiest of Holidays with Evelin T Designs and a red heart for a pop of color.

For my second card I used In Bloom: Renee's Leaves and stamped the images in black and heat embossed the images before coloring them with watercolors. The book paper is super thin so I attached my paper to a sturdier sheet of cardstock using Stick it adhesive first. This made sure all of the book paper was adhered and wouldn't bubble up when I colored it. I then fussy cut the images. I used the Essentials: Audrey Cutaways to cut out a white piece of cardstock and stamped the text from Wishing You with Evelin T Designs and gold embossed it. I adhered all my colored elements around the text for a clean and simple autumn themed card for a friend.

For my last card I really needed to use the pretty birds from the LS Exclusives: So Tweet with Evelin T Designs set. I stamped a bunch of birds to have some to pick from, and also the balloon. I colored them using watercolor markers, the matching cutaways makes it easy to die cut them after you are done. I used some watercolor markers to make a really quick background by just drawing on one of the packages for the stamps and then spritzing water on it and smooching it on the paper, drying and repeating until I was happy. I cut it out with Essentials: Audrey Cutaways to use on the card base.

I stamped the sentiment from Happiest of Holidays with Evelin T Designs and a stem from one of the flower sets for the bird to sit on. I also stamped an extra balloon right to the cardfront because I wanted it to go around the line that the bird sat on. So I cut off the line of my stamped and diecut balloon and added it with foam adhesive on top of the stamped one. I also popped up the little bird on the line. I added some Sparkle Pen on the balloon for some shimmer and my card was done.

  2. I agree with Christy! What a neat idea. The subtleness of the book paper just adds to the simpleness of the designs.
