Hello everyone!  I'm so excited to have a second opportunity to share some cards with you today with Winnie & Walter's "Spotlight On" feature!  My focus this time will be on using outline stamps without having to color them.  When I first started stamping I avoided outline images, preferring to stick with solid stamps, or 2 step stamping, because I lacked confidence in my coloring skills.  And even now, with some practice under my belt, my Copic and marker skills leave a lot to be desired.  I find watercolor a bit easier and more forgiving and I'm glad that's so popular right now.  But what if you don't want to have to "color" an image, but you still want a colorful card?  I have a few ideas for that.

For my first card I used a technique that can be used with many stamps, adding color (ink) on the back of the stamp.  In this case I used distress inks (Squeezed Lemonade, Salty Ocean, Spiced Marmalade, Mowed Lawn, and Picked Raspberry.)

To make this card I used the rectangular vase from In Bloom: Lola's Bouquet with Joni Andaya.  I placed the stamp on an acrylic block, upside down, and inked up the back with distress ink.  I then sprayed it lightly with a mist of water.  I used watercolor paper to stamp on.  As you can see some of the blocks didn't fill in in the middle when I stamped them.  I could have used a paintbrush to fill in the color, but I decided I like this uneven, grungy look and left it as is.  When the piece was dry I stamped just a few of the rectangles with black ink, and added the words "you rock" which are from My Precious.  I cut the panel on an angle and placed it on a white card base.  I die cut the word friend (In a Word: Friend Cutaway) from black card stock and popped it up with some foam tape on my card.  I finished the card by adding some glossy accents to the word "friend".   There are many Winnie & Walter stamps that would work perfectly with this technique.  If you haven't tried it before you should give it a go and see what you think!

For my next card I decided I wanted to stamp some flowers with just their black outline, and add the color behind them.

First I die cut the word "hi" (In a Word: Hi Cutaway) from some thin white card stock.  I used the negative cut to do some sponging/ink blending with distress inks (Picked Raspberry, Orange Marmalade, and Squeezed Lemonade).  I find blending with the distress inks quite easy, so this is a technique I really love for adding color to my cards!  I added a few extra circles with the dot from the letter "i" to add even more color.  Then I stamped several of the flowers from In Bloom: Addie's Garden, and the sentiment, which is from A Tree for All Seasons, using black ink.  This card was so easy to make, but I really love how it looks.

For my last card, I simply stamped the outline images with colored inks.

This is a really simple way to add color to a card without having to color in the image!  All of the stamps are from In Bloom: Lola's Bouquet with Joni Andaya.  I made a mask of the flower and leaf so I could overlap the images, something that creates more depth on your card without extra layers.  I used the large scallop die from Essential's: Audrey Cutaways, and the sentiment is from A Tree for All Seasons.

One more way that I love using outline stamps is to paper piece.  I don't have a sample of that for you today but if you missed my spotlight last week I paper pieced a flower on one of my cards (the second card down).  You can see that HERE.

As you can see, there are many ways to add beautiful colors to your card without being very good at coloring.  Hope these cards inspire you to try something new!

A thousand thanks to Julie and Shay for allowing me to be in the spotlight this month!  Winnie & Walter is my favorite stamp company so this has truly been a joy for me!
