Winnie & Walter Leading Lady

It’s been fabulous having you visit and leave such lovely comments on all my performances at Winnie & Walter so far this month … thank you so much!  This week, I’ve been having fun with ‘The Big, The Bold’ sets and with the ‘In A Word’ Cutaways, making some card sets for the first time … and I’m excited to bring you the results … my ‘Three Times Three’ feature …

Act 1 … a little colour goes a long way …

W&W Leading Lady Week 4 Friends

These cards were made with just three pieces of coloured card stock and a little white … pieced together to give a slightly different look on each.   Using the ‘friends’ Cutaway (The Big, The Bold and Friends) as a size guide, I trimmed aqua, mint and buttercup card to 8 x 12.5 cm, cut the word a third the way down each, and hand cut a little ‘tail’ at the front of the ‘f’ … that way, it matched the ‘s’ at the end and meant that each panel was split into two by the word.  After I cut the ‘friends’ three times in white card, I was ready to piece and adhere the panels onto the bases … bottom section … word … letter infills … top section.  Three colours and white on each card and I still have the aqua, mint and buttercup ‘friends’ to use on other cards!  The sentiments are made up of words from various ‘The Big, The Bold’ sets   (Happy, You, Friends, Party, Comfort) and the little hearts above the ‘i’ are from Essentials: Audrey Cutaways … covered with lashings of Wink of Stella and a coat of Glossy Accents.

Here they are individually …

Lots of The Big, The Bold Cutaways would be perfect for this split panel technique … just trim the card panels to the appropriate size as I did with the ‘friends’ … for the longer words, how about a landscape version?

Act 2 … white on white with a touch of colour …

W&W Leading Lady Week 4 White on White

More die cutting here … this time for a faux embossed look.  I took a piece of watercolour card and made three separate pools of colour using Distress Inks, allowing the colours in each pool to blend and merge a little.  When they were dry, I die cut the words … (from ‘The Big, The Bold’ Cutaway series … ‘love’ from Happy, ‘always’ from Comfort and ‘smiles’ from Friends) … added some shimmer spray and clear embossed them so they shine, and cut all the white words.  Using a ruler as a guide, I arranged and adhered the words onto white card panels, trimmed the edges, added a stamped sentiment to each (from The Big, The Bold and Friends) and popped the panels up on foam dots onto the base cards.

Want a better look?

Love how those Distress Ink colours are so vibrant amid the faux embossed white!

Act 3 – standing up in a crowd …

W&W Leading Lady Week 4 In A Word

Here I used partial die cutting so the words stand up as part of the card panels … the ‘In A Word’ Cutaways (Happy, Hugs, Hello) really lend themselves well to this technique.  I drew a pencil guide a third the way down each card panel and lined the dies up against them, holding them in place with removable tape.  I placed my top cutting plate just above the pencil line so that the lower hanging letters wouldn’t be cut and ran the panels/dies through my machine.  The last step was to cut along the pencil line on each panel, making sure I didn’t slice through where the letters joined.  I sponged the card bases with Distress Inks to create an ombré look, stamped the sentiments (various The Big, The Bold sets … Happy, Friends, Comfort) in matching ink on the panels, added a Wink of Stella’d and Glossy Accented heart to each one and popped the panels up on foam dots onto the bases.

How about some solo shots …

Because they were for sets, I kept my cards pretty clean and simple so that they would be easy to recreate.  Imagine, though, changing words or colours or embellishments … maybe using a watercolour background or stencilling or designer paper … what about double die cutting in a frame or shape … there are so many possibilities with these fantastic Winnie & Walter words! I’ve had tons of fun with them this week … and hope you’ve enjoyed seeing the results!

Julie and Shay have generously given me a $30 gift card to Winnie & Walter to give away this month … if you’d like to be in with a chance of winning it (you too could be playing with these Cutaways!), leave a comment on each of my Leading Lady posts over on my blog (My Papercraft World) every week … five posts during May, five chances to win!  I’ll do a random draw from all the comments and will announce the winner on Sunday 7 June!

Thanks so much to Julie and Shay for having me over to play again this week … I’ll be back next Saturday with the finale … hope you’ll join me!  Thanks so much for coming by, your visits and comments are always a joy!  Anita :)

  2. Knock-it-out-of-the-park STUNNING, Anita! A trio of trios that are incredibly creative, incredibly beautiful, incredibly inspiring. Love the inlaid die-cuts of the first, the pop-of-colour faux embossed effect of the second (must try that technique soon!) and the partial die cutting/vivid backgrounds of the third. What marvelous gifts sets these would make...ideas sparked! Once again, your innovative approaches have me dazzled!
