Shay Says Create!

Happy Saturday to you!

Julie here just dropping in with some updates for the weekend.  :)  Walter wanted to help me write this post, but changed his mind and he plopped down under my chair to chew on his favorite ball. LOL - maybe next time!

If you follow us on Instagram, you have caught some glimpses of Shay and her adventures at Simon Says Create!  (#simonsayscreate, #wwonthemoveShe seems to be having a ball and and learning some great techniques from some of our favorite crafting icons - Jennifer McGuire and Shari Carrol, Tim Holtz, May Flaum, Kelly Marie Alvarez, Kristina Werner, and more!  Keep checking back on Instagram for her adventures throughout the rest of day 2. I'm sure Winnie is missing her very much.

Julie

jmog_have-Fun1

I hope you are ready for some FUN!  hee hee!

I had an idea, not remembering if I saw this somewhere else, but wanted to try it.  I wanted to do some repeated stamping of the sentiment behind the banner to give this card some interest.  I used some of my new Bristol paper and stamped the "fun" stamp from The Big, the Bold and Fun set into two shades of raspberry ink [Distress Picked Raspberry and Hero Arts Raspberry Jam] and then randomly stamped the word over and over again and before it had a chance to dry, I sprayed and sprayed and sprayed water all over the image, softening the look and giving it an adequate blur.  Anywhere it was too faded, I went back with a paintbrush and some watered down ink to areas that needed just a little more color.  After drying this with my heat tool, I sprayed it again with my Pearl Glimmer Mist to give it a nice shimmer, but it isn't easy to see here.  I didn't want the paper to look too matte against the navy Night Sky banner strip and Silver shimmer paper from Papertrey Ink used to cut out FUN from The Big, the Bold and Fun digital cut files.

jmog_have-Fun2

I was able to make the word bigger than the stamp and give it some real presence on the card.  I like how it extends above and below the popped up navy banner.  Using my silver embossing powder, I added the word "have" and the faceted sequin strip and single faceted sequins from Big Bang Bling strategically placed on the card and added a few hot pink gemstones for good measure.  Really loving how this one turned out!

jmog_shine1

Keeping with the bling theme, I used the "shine" sentiment and small word "bright" (also from The Big, the Bold and Fun) for my next card, stamped and embossed in silver on the same navy Night Sky paper.  I also added more Big Bang Bling using the pinwheel style, scattering them in a diagonal across the card.  And for a little more shine, light green gems to match the card base.  Love this color combo!

jmog_shine2

I don't do this offset panel often, but I really do like it.  I thought it would be cool to accent this card just a little more and this green "Bling on a Roll" glitter tape.  I used a pencil to trace the shape of the panel, and put the tape along the traced lines, overlapping at the corner.  It actually isn't very noticeable where the tape meets, and I really like how this brightens up the card and really pops the blue even more. {happy place}

You will be in your {happy place} too once you see all of the fabulous projects from Shay, Shirley, Chaitali, and the ever-so-TALENTed design team!  Enjoy!!!!

Shay

shaybigboldfun1

Like Shirley, I thought the triangle borders from Scenery: Rectangled & Triangled would make an excellent banner.  The border very easily bends to allow for very easy banner making.  I filled in the triangles with the sketchy triangles in butter bar, pale tomato and soft cantaloupe by Hero Arts Shadow Ink.  I then stamped "smile" and "celebrate" from The Big, the Bold and Extras and "play" from The Big, the Bold and Fun.  Placed on a black card base and with some black sequins the card is done.

shaybigboldfunbling1

For my next card I paired our two featured stamp sets along with Scenery: Rectangled & Triangled.  The Pier collection by Crate Paper release last summer had this patterned paper of beach umbrellas which could easily be created with the triangles from Scenery: Rectangled & Triangled.  So I stamped 12 of each of my 3 chosen designs, colored them in with Copics and cut them out.  On a panel I stamped the little words from The Big, the Bold and Fun in a design I created on an acrylic block.  I then distressed the edges with squeezed lemonade and mustard seed Distress Inks.  I stamped "fun" in Versamark and embossed in black.  For some more summer goodness I stamped the sunburst sequins in mustard seed.  I finished the card by adding a layer of black card stock and then on a white card base.

shaybigboldfunbling2

My last card is a shaker card.  For easy shaker card making I relied on one of my favorite crafters, Betsy Veldman, and her newly released MakeIt Market Kit Co. Shakers and Sprinkles kit by Papertrey Ink (may not be on sale any longer).  For the backing of the shaker portion of the card I stamped the outline flat sequin block several times in black and then filled in some of the spaces with the individual flat outline sequins.  Next I over-stamped the sequins with the flat solid sequins in pool, bubble gum and butter bar Hero Arts Shadow Ink.  I also strategically stamped the "you" "sparkle" and "and" all from The Big, the Bold and Fun.  I added some real sequins and finished up inside of the shaker.  On the outside I added a gold embossed fussy cut "shine".  Last I attached the shaker to patterned paper from the Knee Highs collection (ring around the rosies) from Basic Grey and I attached it all to a white card base.

That concludes my portion of today's post, but you are in for a treat when you see all the superb projects by Shirley, Chaitali and the Talent!

We are so pleased to feature our guest star and first Playdate challenge winner, Shirley Bampton's amazing projects.

Bubble Talk has great sentiment building opportunities for numerous occasions and uses!  In fact there are a few that just tickle us.  Winnie and Walter have no idea what we find so funny, but they sure like us laughing.  In addition to bold words and smaller longer sentiments there are two outline and two solid speech bubbles to add your custom sentiment in.  And the words work in concert with The Write Stuff: Picture Perfect...it is like the camera and its flash!  Plus, you can use the smaller words from The Big, the Bold and other stamp sets with the speech bubbles!

The Write Stuff: Picture Perfect

We don't like to play favorites, but this camera is the boss!  It is cute, graphic, retro and so easy to personalize from coloring or paper piecing to decorating with stamps and/or embellishments AND you can add sentiments or journaling on it!  Talk about awesome and then there is a simple frame with a 2 inch x 2 inch opening perfect for Instagram pictures or scenes with tons of little captions to stamp on your picture or frame AND (lots of ands) there is two tiny adorable speech bubbles and little icons to add to your projects.  Whew!  Talk about a packed stamp set!

Julie

Picture Perfect

jmog_camera-celebrate1

This camera is going to get a lot of mileage in my studio, I can assure you of that!  It's so cute and easy to transform to any look you are going for.  Just wait till you see the samples today!  So Cool!!!

This card came together FAST!  I stamped and used distress markers, water and a brush to color this time, and cut it out (very easy). [Distress Markers: faded jeans, tumbled glass, broken china, peeled paint, shabby shutters, mustard seed and spiced marmalade]

jmog_camera-celebrate2

I love this trio of flashes.  I remember coming up with them one night while writing in my journal.  I knew I was going to use them with one of my favorite embossing powders - Judikens Aegean Silver - the glitter is iridescent and gives this card some fun shimmer.  I also brought out my Ideology Film Strip Ribbon from Tim Holtz.  The "aged" highlights in the ribbon are similar to the colors in the camera and it all adds to the retro feel.  The sentiment is completely from The Big, the Bold and Extras set.  Lots of good words there!

jmog_picture-icons1

I couldn't leave out our fun little icons from this set, so I created another quick card (minus drying time).  I had this idea of making a string of the little icons together, and this is what I came up with - a sweet little hello card.  The "hi" is from The Big, the Bold and Extras and how perfect is that?  The awesome green chevron is some washi tape that has been BEGGING to be used, and this was the perfect time.

jmog_picture-icons2

I wanted to keep this card very white and very simple.  This washi tape adds the perfect amount of interest and color - just added to the edge of the panel and wrapped around to the back. The panel is popped up with foam tape for a little dimension.  The final touch was the addition of glossy accents on each of the icons and the speech bubble.  Insert grin here!

Bubble Talk

jmog_smile-girl1

This card really makes me happy! I see other people make cards like this, but it is rare for me and I'm not usually confident that I can pull it off.  I think I did a pretty good job this time.  This one did take a while, but it was still very easy.    I knew I wanted the whole design to be off center, so I stamped our heart ledger from The Write Stuff: Love Story and embossed in white on kraft card stock closer to the right side of the card. The "be you" and "you know it's true" sentiments are from Bubble Talk, as well as the rectangle speech bubble and the GIRL sentiment.  Yes - Girl, you know it's true!  Shay and I love these sentiments!  I also added smile from.......yes, you guessed it.... The Big, the Bold, and Extras.  You're Welcome! *wink*

jmog_smile-girl2

The "be you" is colored with a worn lipstick marker and "you know it's true" is colored with Distress Ink dried marigold and spiced marmalade and the punch shape is an oldie from Stampin' Up!  I stamped the bubble and sentiments on rich razzleberry paper (also from Stampin' Up!) and trimmed.  The LOVE YOU circle is also from The Write Stuff: Love Story and punched and both the bubble and the circle are on foam tape.  While I had this fab set on my desk, I grabbed the large heart and stamped and clear embossed it at the bottom, and also grabbed the tiny heart from You've Got Love Mail and used the same treatment in a different color at the top. Last but not least, I picked coordinating gems to sprinkle around.

Enjoy the fabulous projects ahead!  You are in for a real treat!

Shay

I made a couple of cards using the two stamp sets together as I think they work so well together.

shaybubbletalkpictureperfec

For my first card I had to without a doubt make a card saying "girl you know it's true".  I know I am silly, but it makes me laugh every single time I see it. :-)  I used ephemera from the Lemon Lush collection by Studio Calico along with stamped images.  I stamped the outline oval speech bubble from Bubble Talk on a piece of patterned paper from Studio Calico's Lemon Lush 6x6 paper pad and added "girl".  I also stamped the solid rectangle speech bubble with passion flower Hero Arts Shadow Ink and then stamped the sentiment "you know it's true" in black from Bubble Talk.  I also stamped the tiny outline speech bubble from The Write Stuff: Picture Perfect onto a heart patterned paper from the same 6x6 paper pad.  Onto a piece of card stock I added a white doily and then arranged all of the elements down the left hand side of the card.  I adhered them onto the card adding a daisy brad from the May 2014 OhDeerMe Kit by Freckled Fawn. I also stamped the littlest flat outline sequin from Scenery: Big Bang Bling (check for more on that tomorrow!) all around for interest and then scattered some real gold sequins.  I decided later to pop up the girl speech bubble and tiny heart bubbles with dimensional foam adhesive.

shaybubbletalkpicture2

My next card focuses upon The Write Stuff: Picture Perfect.  I had an idea come into my head for this and I hope it translated alright into real life.  You know how it is when you imagine something and then it is a bit different in reality.  So with the Printshop collection 6x6 paper pad by Studio Calico I paper pieced the camera...it is this a cool camera or what?  I truly love how it turned out.  Okay, back on task...I stamped in Versamark "smile" from Bubble Talk into the open section of the camera.  Yep, the space fits the sentiments from Bubble Talk.   I look forward to also using it for a little journaling for future projects.  I also stamped "you're a rock star" and colored in the card stock with squeezed lemonade Distress Ink so it would stand out and cut around it placing it under "smile".  I stamped the frame in black and cut out the center and added a little washi from the April 2014 OhDeerMe Kit by Freckled Fawn for some interest.  On a separate piece of card stock I stamped the flash images in butter bar Hero Arts Shadow Ink and added the silhouette from The Write Stuff: Leave it to Mom stamped in tide pool Hero Arts Shadow Ink.  For more drama I stamped the solid tiny speech bubble and added the exclamation point.  I had some extra rectangles from my stamping of Scenery: Rectangled & Triangled that I tore on the edges to give them a washi look.  So fun!  Last thing were the ubiquitous sequins. lol

That's it from me for today, but you have so much more to see from our marvelous guest stars and the always stunning Talent!

We are so pleased to feature our guest star and first Playdate challenge winner, Shirley Bampton's amazing projects.
